Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Our C4 has lived outside and been used during 13 winters.
Leading evidence: 'Use during 13 winters' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace few minor clamp bolts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
After 10 years DD'ing in CT I have only had to replace a few minor clamp bolts on mine this summer (pre-emptively).

Better still though, if you have a pit to use, get your shorts on and go to work with a water hose.

Indiana uses SHOCKING amounts of road salt in the winter.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had no choice. I am out of town tomorrow and had to drop the car off at the shop today for tomorrow's appointment. A light snow last night forced the entire state to dump salt on the roads. I could feel the car corroding every mile! I will spray the under carriage with warm water once it's back home but for those of you who live in salt states and have owned these cars for a few years how do they hold up against corrosion? I'm not too concerned about the paint as I cleaned and waxed it recently but it's the areas of exposed metal. Just give it a good rinse and good to go?
Your muffler clamps and related fasteners will suffer the most, sometimes fused into a hunk of iron oxide when it comes time to loosen them......
I haven't found anything else that is difficult to remove or suffering from rust, which is pretty impressive for a car that was taken delivery almost 14 years ago on Jan 2000.
The bodies on modern Porsches (including the 996) do very well on salted roads. I owned my 996 in Indiana for 5 years before I moved to Colorado. Indiana uses SHOCKING amounts of road salt in the winter. I haven't noticed any issues at all.
Our C4 has lived outside and been used during 13 winters. We've never done anything to clean it after a drive and the only casualty was a heat shield mounting post that broke off during its 60k this summer.
VA isn't the worst of the salters on the east coast, but we still see enough of it to turn black cars white.
These cars aren't the china dolls some make them out to be. Drive 'em and enjoy 'em.
+1 on exhuast hardware.
After 10 years DD'ing in CT I have only had to replace a few minor clamp bolts on mine this summer (pre-emptively). Even the brake calipers look new.

These cars are extremely corrosion resistant...more than any pick-up truck ironically
After the winter, run it through the automatic car wash for an under body wash. I am sure a good car wash place can select, just the under body wash. Even if they can't, the car will not fall apart if it goes once a year through a full wash. Better still though, if you have a pit to use, get your shorts on and go to work with a water hose.
Hurdi, not sure about underside car wash, everything I have heard on forums indicates there are to many opening on the underside and allows water in places you don't want it. Maybe if the car wash car dial down the spray pressure but I doubt it. Just my 2 cents
They don't melt believe it or not. These things seem to have been coated with pounds of cosmoline underneath before leaving Stuttgart, I can't recall ever seeing one rust. Drive it all winter with good tires, run it through a good TOUCHLESS (not Green Lantern for the love of God) car wash when temperatures permit, then treat it to a good full detail when it warms up. Remember that they get a lot of snow in Germany and Porsches have always been intended as year round cars, they are designed for the winter.
The under carriage wash (which on other vehicles has been the feature that most brought me to a wintertime car wash in the first place) and ability of cab to handle a touchless car wash are the issues for me. I have not had a car, to my knowledge, with drainage holes quite like this one has.
I drove my Boxster through the winter and occasionally hit a touchless car wash, despite a so/so condition top it was very water tight. Significantly better than my old '88 911 Targa that leaked just doing a hand wash, I wouldn't have dreamed of taking it through a machine touchless.
Yeah, I lose traction, not because of the snow, it's because of the SALT! Then, when we really need it in Feb. and March, they're crying because they have run out.
Maybe if you didn't "salt the earth" over a quarter inch snowfall in December...
