Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Some more parts came in so I finally got busy on my engine drop. It doesnt look like most remove the engine cover/hood for major engine work or dropping the engine. I find it much easier to see and even reach some of the absurdly hard to get to bolts (AC comp). The C4S cover is very light (its mostly re-enforced plastic, 4 bolts and a connector. Makes it much easier to get the top ready for engine drop. Maybe Im wrong? Yes, I find the dirt and grime revolting. It will be spotless when I re-install it.

POST 2Original post

Do you have to crack open the AC lines to unbolt it?

POST 3Original post

I did not remove the cover. I did not find it to be in the way. What really helped was to lower the engine slightly before removing some of the accessories such as the AC compressor. No, you do not have to open up the AC lines to remove the engine.

POST 4Original post

BTW, what is the reason for removing the engine?

POST 5Original post

^^^ it's the KK method. Remove, clean, replace. I would put in a preorder for his upcoming book if I were you.

POST 6Original post

keep up the good work... I for one love a good clean engine.

POST 7Original post

I removed the lid the last time I dropped the motor. Allows for more light. And, I didn't hit my head as much

POST 9Original post

I kept mine on but I had the car outside on a trailer jacked up when removing the engine. Lighting wasn't a problem. I also saved myself the agrevation and just disconnected the AC lines, capped them to keep it air tight.
