It costs $$ to post up auctions on eBay, so I would suspect whoever bought this thing is starting to realize that they didn't make the best purchasing decision when buying the car.

Suggestion · Original poster

Change the horrible wood interior to a carbon fiber or somethign different and try to see how much it would be to change the center sections of the seats.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello everyone, Some of you may have already seen this 996 cab selling on ebay. Its been reposted on ebay several times because no one wants to buy it. I have been looking for a 996 or boxster for a long time now since i was able to save some money for a car aside from other things. I know its ugly, but do you guys think they would take 25,000 maybe less for this car? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Gorge...QQcmdZViewItem

POST 2Original post

Whoa....ugly is an understatement. If you can deal with the paint combo, offer what you think is fair. That guy isn't gonna be able to find a buyer for that horrid looking car [unless Barbie comes across it on eBay of course], so offer what you think is fair and if the auction ends again without a winner [which I suspect it will] you can e-mail the seller and offer him a solid deal. It costs $$ to post up auctions on eBay, so I would suspect whoever bought this thing is starting to realize that they didn't make the best purchasing decision when buying the car. Definitely keep us updated though. Crazy what some people will do to have a "unique" car....$40K in extra options to make the car look worse than stock [in my opinion of course ]

POST 3Original post

I agree dont do it, you'll be like him trying to find a buyer.

POST 4Original post

I've seen high mileage 996 selling for $30k. Don't bargain hunt. You'll end up with a car you buy purely bc of price that you don't really like. How can anyone get a car as tasteless as this? I'll be damned to be seen anywhere near this thing. Athletes!

POST 5Original post

I would keep looking. By the time you put the time and effort into changing everythign you don't like, you probably won't save a dime.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advise, the way I looked at it was I could easily repaint the wheels. Change the horrible wood interior to a carbon fiber or somethign different and try to see how much it would be to change the center sections of the seats. I could repaint the car at my fathers armoring plant with dupont certified painters at a low cost. Does anyone know how much the car would depreciate if I repainted it black for instance? I would buy it if they take a really low price, say 22,000 for example.

POST 7Original post

Still not a good deal at 22K since you would have to spend probably 10K in paint (show quality job) and misc interior bits and then you would not be able to recover that money since it would have been a total repaint. The only way to sell it AND make money on the deal would be to torch it and collect the insurance. Now, on the other hand, it you wanted to make it a dedicated track car, etc, then it might not be a bad idea for a repaint (custom and unique of course) if you could get it for a rock bottom price, like sub 20K!

POST 8Original post

For 22K why not buy it and paint it - as long as you like it and feel you got a good deal go for it. Personally i would paint it NATO green or something - just for the hell of it (esp if you have a cheap paint connection) Do the wheels black and your in buisiness. the reseve is less than 40k so they might take a 30kish bid. I like the track car idea too. Put a full cage in it, ditch the top, add some wild triabal graphics and your golden

POST 9Original post

...PASS.... Honestly i have seen worse , but that doesnt say anything about that car!

POST 12Original post

Thank goodness that it is a "one off custom" car. I would hate to think that there are two or more of them out there! Makes me shudder just to think about multilpes of that! Why will Porsche build a car that hideous looking but won't offer the U.S. the "sunroof delete" option? Makes no sense to me!

POST 13Original post

John - How the hell are you? I haven't seen many posts from you recently. What's the status of the bikini line? Did you ever get your water spots removed?

POST 14Original post

Not trying to play devils advocate, especially as a newcomer who's already been warmly received, but it's still a 996 under all that mascara and as such one heck of a car. A few years back I purchased a mint green (pastel green, stock factory color) 968 cab after ignoring it for months on autotrader...when the price fell well below what was being asked for any of the other 968's listed I called on it and the owners wife said that they couldn't give it away because of the color although the car was in perfect condition (26,500 miles). Long story short, got a great deal, bought it figuring I could paint it, grew to love the color and wouldn't change it for the world. That said, color aside, I absolutely love the car regardless of the endless comments from passers-by (the vast majority positive) as it's just such an enjoyable car to drive...so yeah the 996 on ebay is pretty funky for most people's taste but if that's not a deal breaker for you and you can get a great price because of it I'd say give it some thought because underneath it all it's still a great car. And, umm, I kind of like the color...

POST 15Original post

The color is horrible imho! But, if you could replace all the body panels with carbon fiber from the money you save, then go for it. Otherwise, it's really tough to look at. I can't imagine opening my garage door every morning to see that.

POST 16Original post

Ouch! Man that's just an awful color. I think the question is how much would the seller pay you to take it! But seriously, there are so many other nice cars out there - sure they are more money but probably worth it. How about a nice 993??

POST 17Original post

If ugly were bricks that car would come with it's own 4 car garage.
