Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I went to one of those independent dealers which sells high end cars and test drove an m3 cab.

Been thinking about buying an M3 but Just looked at a 2003 Carrera, Lapis/Black, GT3 aero kit (factory Installed he says) electric sport seats, Bose surround sound radio, New Pilot Sport tires, 6 speed, not full leather, 10,000 miles, certified..yes its a dealer. They were asking $68700, now asking $64700. Not sure if enough miles for any RMS change. The bad part is I drove it, yes hard. I now have this fish hook in my lip and about to be reeled in so I thought Id better seek help here...sorry been lurking here for some time. I'm thinking about offering $60000.
gr8330 - 6 weeks ago I got '04 996 Lapis Blue/Grey Leather with 6,450 miles, 6 speed, supple leather, heated seats, Bose, Xenons, Carrera II 18' wheels, stainless door edge guards, stainless exhaust tips. Original sticker 81,300. Paid about what your dealer is currently asking for the car you are interested in purchasing. In another 4 - 5 months your car will be 3 years old. IMO, $60,000 might be a bit high.
You can read the options list on the sticker under the front hood and tell what is factory installed. Take a pic and post it here and we can tell you or write down all the numbers on the sticker and post those.
As all have said 60K is prob a bit high. I would offer 55K see what they do. If they are rude, walk away. They are mid model year and prob dying to get cars unloaded.
I didn't mention it had supple leather, heated seats, Xenons, Carrera II 18' wheels, stainless exhaust tips. motor sound pkg. I'm not going to rush into this. If the car sells before I feel comfortable with buying it then I keep looking. I will say I believe the M3 is now my second choice. I've owned a few BMWs and I like them..currently have a 330ci with Performance Pkg... but have had this desire to own a Porsche. I've never been a person that would own a car with a large wing but this is different, I really like the way it looks
I went thru the exact same thing before getting my 996. I was looking at m3 or m3 cab because "I had always wanted one". I went to one of those independent dealers which sells high end cars and test drove an m3 cab. I was very disappointed, it did nothing for me. Then he tried to "sell" me this 996 targa they had. I test drove it just around the block and I already had a big smile on my face. I knew then the plan has changed to looking for a 996! You won't regret it!
I appreciate all the responces and I feel more confidant on what I should offer. If the dealer and I cant get together then I'll pass. Any 2003 or newer car I find should still have some factory warranty left and if I want to purchase an extended warranty past that does Porsche offer anything or just aftermarket companies.
55-60 max, if they balk, walk. Make the offer over the phone, not in person, when they say no (and they will initially) just hang up. They WILL call you back, don't call them. Negotiate hardass, you'll get your car at your price.
You can get the Platinum Warranty from the dealer for about $3500. as long as the current factory warranty is not expired. This is the same as the bumper to bumper that is on the car from dealer. If you get the car from the dealer it should have a 100K extended as a certified car. If the car doesn't fire your wire, one will come along that will.
Several months ago purchased 2003 Lapis Blue 996 C2 with full leather, most options,3K miles, no aero for $57K. OK deal but not great. OfferlLess than $60K now should work.
I don't know anything about the Platinum Warranty StanSoph refers to, but the Factory Certified-Pre-Owned (CPO) warranty I bought with my car is a LIMITED warranty which is available at the cost of $1549.00. Max 2yrs, 100k miles. Not a bumper-to-bumper warranty!
I agree that low offers are almost always rejected initially, but many times you'll get a call back. Although many dealers deny this, I've gotten my best deals at the end of the month. If you are fortunate enough to be negotiating with a dealer who is trying to meet some sales quota, the Sales Manager will more than likely accept any reasonable offer.
