While you can get the larger debris out of the front of the radiators by reaching in or using a small vacuum hose to suck the stuff out, the real problem is from the finer fuzz and gunk that accumulates between the air-conditioner condenser and the engine radiator.
Leading evidence: 'from the finer fuzz and gunk' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'from the finer fuzz and gunk' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean front radiators, the front bumper cover must be removed' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I filled 3 dustpans, and this was after I had stuck my hands in there and pulled the big stuff out!

I used the water hose to blow it out but the drains in the back are too small.

Every time I wash my car I use the yard blower to dry it off before the towels.....sooo I blow out the radiator grill openings and get a lot of the weeks stuff.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have had my 996 for about 3 weeks and noticed that the front air ducts collect a lot of garbage. I used the water hose to blow it out but the drains in the back are too small. Is there a easier way to clean this besides sticking my hand in there and pulling the garbage out? I used my hand and pulled out a live wasp, good thing it was half drowned.
If you do a search, you will probably find at least one DIY that I remember seeing where a member removed the nose off of the car and thoroughly cleaned the radiators.
He showed a couple of pics and the amount of garbage was substantial.

To completely clean the front radiators, the front bumper cover must be removed. While you can get the larger debris out of the front of the radiators by reaching in or using a small vacuum hose to suck the stuff out, the real problem is from the finer fuzz and gunk that accumulates between the air-conditioner condenser and the engine radiator. I recommend cleaning out the radiators every 3 years.
Get one of those long cardboard tubes, like from the roll of kitchen towels. Attach to vacuum hose, flatten the end and deform as needed to get to where you need it, and suck that cavity clean.
Orient's way works, but I want you to know one thing: Orient also waxes the INSIDE of his engine compartment
.
Hey, Orient. How do you remove the front bumper cover? Is it easy?
I have a long blow tube for my air compressor. I stick it up in there and blast the stuff out. My car must like the taste of cigarettes as I allways finda few butts blowing out..
It is fairly easy. There are about 20 fasteners to remove, and the bumper cover just pulls off. The radiator sandwich is held together by 2 bolts. You peel them apart to get at the stuff stuck between them. The pictures are of my neighbors 996, and we took about 90 minutes to do the whole job.
My local indy shop cleans my radiators once a year by pulling off the front bumper. They charge $200, which I think is very fair since I don't have any neighbors who are willing to help with the job.
Vacuuming is better than nothing, but periodically you need to pull the front bumper off and really clean in there. The first time I pulled mine I was surprised how much junk had accumulated. I filled 3 dustpans, and this was after I had stuck my hands in there and pulled the big stuff out!

Every time I wash my car I use the yard blower to dry it off before the towels.....sooo I blow out the radiator grill openings and get a lot of the weeks stuff. Some weeks more than others but this car does smoke a lot and hides the butts where it thinks I won't find them
One of the challenges of using a blower in the air ducts is that you can embed as much stuff in the radiators as you blow out.
It is probably better to suck out the stuff in the front of the radiators than blowing it out.
This Boxster link might be useful--think it is very close or identical to the 996
It helped me out with a question, anyway . . .
