Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi- The car sat for about 5 days-rough idle on start, then ran normally after warm up. Question is-is there any way to reset the CEL without going through the reading tool process(read avoid $)? Cheers, Jason 98 996 911

POST 2Original post

bro, get it checked out. don't be driving around with a cel on and then look for "any way" to reset the CEL. it's bordering absurd to me how guys ignore the cel.

POST 3Original post

Agree with Ben to get the codes read (free at autozone). To simple reset, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes.

POST 4Original post

this sounds like many recent threads here....research "clean throttle body"...may clear up your issue and you can do it yourself fairly easily. J

POST 6Original post

The free read at Autozone or an inexpensive code reader would pinpoint your reason for your CEL. Why gamble when the fix is quick and not expensive to establish the cause?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm in Australia and we don't have any service like this. Thanks for everyone's advice. I will take it to the dealer.

Alternatively, OBDII code readers are on ebay for as little as $25

POST 9Original post

IIRC steady CEL is commonly emissions system problems e.g. O2 sensor, gas cap, catalyst etc.. Should be checked out but probably not a life or death issue for the engine. Flashing CEL is a serious engine problem and should be looked into immediately. The easiest thing to do is find someone with an On Board Diagnostics scanner and get the error code. Then search the forums for what to do for that code. Sometimes it's as simple as clearing code with the OBD scanner and seeing if the problem comes back. IMHO an OBD scanner is pretty cheap and a very useful tool and saves going to the dealer who will charge $$ just to read the code for you.

POST 10Original post

Flashing means the condition can damage the catalysts.
