Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings all... Been a long time Rennlister on the email lists for a while. Having owned 3 previous Porsches I am pretty familiar with them. However, I have been away and I am looking to get back into one. I have an opportunity to get a fantastic deal on a Silver 1999 Carrera 2. My first 911!!! Now, I know about the issues with the RMS, etc. And, I am willing to take the chance on it. It is a later car, (build date: 11/27/98). It has some desirable options, but no M220 (limited slip.) How obtainable is an aftermarket LSD unit? Secondly, I hate the 4-spoke steering wheel. How big in diameter is that thing anyway? In the meantime, I am waiting on a PPI verdict (hopefully Monday) and I am whispering prayers to the Porsche Gods. TIA for the answers, I look forward to hearing from you guys. cheers, Chad A. (911 hunting)

POST 2Original post

1. i believe quaife makes an aftermarket differential for those cars 2. the 4 spoke steering wheel is easily replaced with a 3 spoke one , in finsih of your choice. good luck with the PPI, don't forget to run your own carfax/etc. Tom

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Tom... Side note - I went the Bimmer side for awhile. I just sold my '98 M3 coupe (with about 14K in aftermarket track goodies) to get the 996. Here's hopin. -C.

POST 4Original post

Welcome back. You'll find the 996 a very refined sports car.
