Not to scare you in any way, but man, I have heard of some dealer stories where they really get at the marrow of the car and just run the crap out of them...

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi guys,
Iv been looking for awhile and Im thinking of taking a trip up north for this
http://www.buysell.com/search/Result...d=67667272&r=9
What do you think?
it's clearly a stunning car with the full aerokit, lowering job an 19" wheels, sport seats, painted center console.. but
-get a full PPI, compression/leakdown test, paint check, history
-close visual inspect of fitment in case that thing wasn't done up via factory or was ever in an accident
-if in fact those are BBS LMs, understand that BBS does not sell the LM with black centers which means the guy had to have some vendor disassemble wheels. understand that BBS never reuses the rivet bolts as they are designed to stretch during assembly and they don't sell these bolts so these guys.... well, i think it looks poor, they should've left a good thing alone... but that's your call.
other people can help u get an idea on pricing and i'm sure they'll say negotiate down bigtime.
Ditto B.Choi's advice, and definitely pay much less (remember your negotiating leverage in canada is diminished, these cars cost more money new there and the loonie is up like 60% against the greenback since 2000)
Maybe just a typo but they referred to it as a "5 speed" twice. That suggests they're less than familiar with these cars. Make sure you do your home work as Ben suggested in his original post.
Isn't this car in Canada?
As for the price being too high, what would the conversion be, $37,900 Canadian = $? US dollars?
As for the high mileage, 81,000km = 50k miles, which I would not consider high miles for a 2000.
If you check the dealer's inventory, it mostly consists of Impalas, Civics and Mazdas. Nothing wrong with that but clearly makes you wonder where the car is from. You need history and PPI for sure.
Thanks for all the great advice guys.
Currently 37,900.00 CAD = 37,647.49 USD.
I saw that "5spd" in the summary, made me think especially since I cant get a hold of anyone there to confirm its a standard or automatic.
Theres also a private sale 01' C4 for 36K, has 76,000kms so 47,050 miles. its really clean except has the ugliest rims I have ever seen in my life. Sounds like a better deal?
Unfortunately I cant seem to find the same prices as the ones in Texas or Florida.
5 speed?
Anyway - my advice would be that it's pretty much never worth your time to look for a car in Canada. They start out about 50% more expensive than the same car in the USA, the weather they are exposed to is usually going to be worse, and with the dollar at basically par you're looking at a 2000 for around $40,000 when you throw in the expenses you'll accrue getting the car.
Do a search on Autotrader and Cars.com for 2000 996s under $40,000 - there's a LOT of them available.
Cars.com
Autotrader
There are at least
265
996s in the 2000 to 2003 range under $37,000 in the USA.
Not to scare you in any way, but man, I have heard of some dealer stories where they really get at the marrow of the car and just run the crap out of them... and it's never good that this Porsche will stick out amongst the vapid lot full of econoboxes.
Protect yourself. After the PPI results and all that stuff, do a gut check on the people around you and what they might've done to that bad boy while it's been in their hands.
thanks for the offer but im gonna broaden my search to the surrounding states first... but Iv heard alot of good things about BC Cars.
Also Im gonna go take a look at that 01' C4, for 36k, seems like a good price considering mileage and AWD. Any thoughts?
