thats because the last major service was done 6000 klms ago, and he has records of changing the spark plugs at that service as well as 2 more times..thats approx every 20.000 klms.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Please help. My godfather has a 993 C2 95 and has full Porsche service history from new. he bought the car from an Official Porsche Centre in Milan Italy with 26.000 klms, about 5 years ago and the car has 56.000 klms now. Since he bought it, he is servicing it in U.K at a London OPC. Car as stated before has regular servicing at opc. Last service that the car had was a major service 6.000 klms ago.here starts the strange story. 5 days ago when he was driving his car around the town, the car suddenly started making some funny noise, like a knocking noise from behind. No oil smell, no oil fumesnothing funny except the fact couldnt rev more than 1500 rpm at any gear!!!! He called that road assistance and took the car at the OPC where he was servicing the car annually as Porsche states. Result: this was caused by the fact that it has been years(!!!) when was the last time that the spark plugs were changed , and the mechanic also told him, may be never.!!!!funny-strange. thats because the last major service was done 6000 klms ago, and he has records of changing the spark plugs at that service as well as 2 more times..thats approx every 20.000 klms. I have a feeling that they have never changed them. Question: 1. is there any possibility of this?if yes why the performance of the spark plugs has not been worse gradually? 2.What would you, do in his case? 3. any leagal advice? Thanks in advance. Any thought or advice would be appreciated

POST 2Original post

What is the proof that the plugs have not been changed? Even if true, your recourse is the cost of a set of plugs.......Your cost for a "legal" remedy is likely much more than you will rcover....... I thought only us yankees were "sue happy"....... Change the plugs and drive the car.....the best revenge is to live a good life......

> Change the plugs and drive the car.....the best revenge is to live a good life...... Nice piece of wisdom. Well said.

POST 4Original post

Surely you don't mean you want legal advice to recover the cost of the spark plugs. Are you saying if the spark plugs were not changed, then maybe the whole service history is a fraud and you want your money back for the car in total? Hmmm, the term buyer beware comes to mind. Spark plugs decay can be gradual, as they get covered in muck and the temp of the spark degrades. However, I have seen more "all of a sudden" changes to plugs as the plug gap gets wider for whatever reason and I have actually seen the entire metal piece (ground electrode) on the firing end of the plug break off. The latter of the two was a disaster, requiring an entire engine rebuild as the person needed to confirm the metal bits were not in the engine. There is a very informative write-up on sparkplugs at ngksparkplugs.com. I have provided a couple links to some interesting bits. http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinf...200&country=US http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinf...000&country=US

no it they haven't been changed. my godfather had to pay for a 24k mile service, 900. i find the situation very stupid to be honnest.at least they could replace the spark plugs at their cost, since it is their fault

POST 10Original post

As a lawyer practising in London, my strong advice to you (and your godfather) would be: (1) Check your facts carefully (this may be difficult, and costly, in terms of getting proof of what you allege). I am assuming that the car is now running fine; if so, it will most likely be a huge waste of time and money getting a mechanic to do a report on the car (you might have wanted to do this if you thought that any dodgy servicing had actually caused any damage to the car). (2) Don't even consider suing for the cost of the replacement spark plugs. The fact that a successful UK litigant can recover a proportion of his legal costs from the other side (unlike, I believe, the situation in the USA) would never make it worthwhile. (3) If (and I mean if) you feel you can definitely prove that the plugs were not replaced when you were billed for the parts and labour, if you can really be bothered, send a letter to your OPC (along with your evidence), asking for an explanation, suggesting that you be given new plugs for free and a discount on your next service (for example) and casually mentioning that you will in any event be writing to your local Trading Standards Office to let them know what's been going on. This may focus the OPC's attention. The experience of other UK OPC customers would suggest that it won't (!). Bottom line - if you can prove it, it maybe worth sending a letter and seeing what happens. Regards Deeps

giasou malaka!!!! if the car is running fine, then it seems like of waste of time and effort to pursue it further. sure, i would get the dealer to do the work at no charge to you. and of course, you should never go back to that dealer again. ante gia! ELLADARA!!!!!
