I've talked to Hurley Haywood about this in the past and he agreed nothing gets a car running smooth like a few foot to the floor, wring out sessions.
Leading evidence: 'Run smooth like a few foot' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). My experience is that it makes things run smoother and better.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

One is a repeat of the seatbelt mount question I tried putting out here once before. I'm 5' 10" and the hight the belts exit the side of a Cabriolet is below shoulder level on me so sometimes the belt slid off my shoulder in our '99. Anyone figure out what to do about this? Maybe it won't be a problem with the Sport seats in the '05.
The other question I have is about break in. From what I know once you have a car pretty well broken in, the way to really finish it is to run it flat out for a fair number of miles. I've talked to Hurley Haywood about this in the past and he agreed nothing gets a car running smooth like a few foot to the floor, wring out sessions.
Now when I lived in Europe, no problem or when I owned cars that topped out in the 130's, again no problem. But how am I going to do this with a car that goes over 170? I really don't want to go to jail for speeding.
drive down the highway using only 3rd and 4th. that should accomplish the objective.
congrats, the c4s cab is an unbelievable car. i love mine.

I wonder if cruising on the limiter in 3rd or 4th is really the same thing? I always figured that it had something to do with the way driveline loads gently vary while NEAR redline when driving foot on the floor in top gear which made the difference. You're supposed to vary RPM's not just sit at one during break in.
I have only one drive in a 993 tt when they first came out so I don't know the all-wheel 911 very well. I almost dropped the hammer on a GT3 last year and I felt I knew what driving the GT3 was going to be like but what the C4s is about is a bit of a mystery.
Here's what I do.. I find a divided highway with guard rails on both sides of the road for a mile or so. Then I go out early in the AM (no traffic) and drive hard within that area knowing that there cannot be any police on either side of the road.
Take it to the track. You'll have a blast, really get to know the car and get lots of time at WOT (though not top-end speedwise) without going to jail. It's a win win win!!!
I may be in the mninority, but I always follow the owners manual 100% when it comes to break-in. Who knows the car better than the people who design and build it ? Follow their advice ! Why would Porsche make the break in recommendations if they did not think they were important? to annoy the customer?
In over 40 years of owning everything from several Porsches (currently a 2004 C4S) to several Jags, Saab turbos, Lexus's, BMW's etc, i have never had an engine problem and I have always followed the break in rules religiously
Congrats. I drive an '04 C4S Cab and love it (had a '99 C2 Cab as well). As for the seatbelt issue, I can't understand why you are having that problem. I am 6' and have no trouble with it sliding around much. Could it be the way your seat back is pitched? Try a few options. If not, try a dealer to see about anything they might be able to do to keep it in place.
Best of luck!
some of the best advice yet, i don't understand why people don't just trust it, people are constantly questioning it and believing things they 'heard from a friend/on the net/etc'
good luck with the car, C4S cab has some of the best lines in the entire range!
I never said anything about not following the factory breakin guidlines. But once you've done those I'm convinced there's still something worth doing and that's run it WFO in 6th for 10-20 miles every thousand. My experience is that it makes things run smoother and better.
I agree the C4S looks nice. I wonder how it handles. Should push a little less power on I'm hoping.
