Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

The cost of the x74 (or comparable PSS10) is of course much higher than just doing springs, even after you adjust for the extra labor....but IMHO you get what you pay for with this particular kit.

what you say makes sense and it is likely the complete new set up is optimal - so now (I know this has been discussed at length), which is best for a MY 02 NB C2 that will not see the track but wants a lower set up (not looking to scrape but do want to get away from NA wagon-wheel look).

Suspected cause

It's probably a couple hours of extra labor compared to swapping in complete already-assembled shock/spring/bumpstops/tophat assemblies that are included with X74.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm looking at a set of Champion lowering springs for my 99C2. It's going to lower me an 1.2" on the front yet they claim the stock spring rate remains the same. Sounds too good to be true. I'm not worried about the height as lower is what I want and these seem a bit lower then ROW settings which is fine. Does anyone have a ball park cost of what I should expect to pay an indy to install these springs? I futher figure an alignment is the default after the springs are installed - a week later for them to settle?

POST 2Original post

I'd be leery of not changing the shock at the same time. I don't understand how changing the spring and keeping the shock will not change the spring rate. Sounds like you really want the X74 instead.

POST 4Original post

Sitting on Champion springs...no issues stock struts...feels like it did stock just a bit lower and a tad firmer. Full alignment is necessary, did it after about 100miles. He said my toe was dead on...but my camber was way off. Perfect for a street car....I would pss9's if you are going to track car.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks FTY! (Nice car!) It's not a track car - just want to lower the center of gravity a bit and really going for a better look. I think the US spec looks almost 4x4 height when you look at ROW or even lower sets ups. I don't need the PSS10's etc as I've had my track days (and have the scars) and if I were to go back there it would be a full on race car not some hybrid street/ master of none. I just enjoy the car and the ride quite frankly is pretty good and the pavement I drive is ok. I'll have to watch driveways I don't look twice at now if I lower it. I'm wondering what the time rate is to install springs - are we looking at a 4 hour job or less then this?

POST 6Original post

is this the easiest, most economical way to lower the NA 996.2? I NEED to do something to get this thing lower

POST 7Original post

Changing only the springs will involve lower costs in terms of parts, obviously, but additional cost in terms of labor, since you will be paying someone to remove the old assemblies, dismantle them to get the old springs off, and rebuild them with the new springs. It's probably a couple hours of extra labor compared to swapping in complete already-assembled shock/spring/bumpstops/tophat assemblies that are included with X74. The X74 kits also incorporates better quality Bilstein shocks (and bumpstops that are designed to work with the lowered/shorter-travel springs). Are your shocks & bumpstops original? (i.e. 11 years old?) If so, do you really want to do all this work & re-align your car and leave them in there? The cost of the x74 (or comparable PSS10) is of course much higher than just doing springs, even after you adjust for the extra labor....but IMHO you get what you pay for with this particular kit. I am very happy with X74, and I use it both on terrible city streets as well as the track. It's stiffer, but actually seems less "crashy" than the stock US M030 suspension. And the stance is perfect if that's all you're after:

POST 8Original post

as far as I know, my set up is original (9 years old - MY 02). what you say makes sense and it is likely the complete new set up is optimal - so now (I know this has been discussed at length), which is best for a MY 02 NB C2 that will not see the track but wants a lower set up (not looking to scrape but do want to get away from NA wagon-wheel look). I do not require adjustability, so for cost, drop, etc. what's best ROW, X74, PSS9/10?

POST 9Original post

ROW M030 sounds like your ticket, but when you get it you will realize you want it lower yet and the X74 was really the answer. Both the ROW M030 and X74 are fixed where the PSS9/10 is adjustable. So save your noodling over it and get it. Good Luck, whatever you do it will be an improvement.

thanks pete - how lower is X74 compared to row? do you know what a "good price" for x74 is?

POST 11Original post

I would guess X74 is between 10-20mm lower than RoW M030. Suncoast lists the X74 kit at $2,500 ( http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...=996Suspension ). THis includes struts/springs/ARBs/bushings & those weird little rear chassis reinforcements. The kit's Part number 0000_4450035 according to my notes. When I asked my local dealer about X74, they started quoting prices on all the individual components seperately, which adds up to about $4k. Ridiculous. The above part number is supposed to be for the entire kit, but most US dealers don't seem to know about it. My kit arrived from Suncoast in a Porsche box with a label that said "not for USA." Go figure.

POST 12Original post

It lowered my car 40mm all the way around. Purchased it from Gert @ http://carnewal.com/ For a C2 the going rate is $2048 including shipping. Shoot Gert an email...he is on RL. Suncoast could not get to the price that Gert had. Money well spent!

POST 14Original post

Pete - what's the install gonna run? thanks to everybody for their input - pulling the trigger is imminent!!!

I made friends with my local Tire Barn store. Always go there for mounting tires. I asked the manager if he and I could use the equipment on a Sunday to do the install. It took 5 hours and $200. He really didn't want the money because he was learning how to do this too. I also sent you a PM (cc'd Gert). I would assume he would be contacting you or you can beat him to the punch. Good Luck!
