Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Over the weekend I checked the tire pressure across the fleet (3 cars + pickup). Uniformly all the tires were down 5-7 pounds. I check the air often enough that this was quite a surprise. One possible reason could be the wild temperature fluctuations this winter... 35 one day and 70 the next. So everybody go check your tire pressures!!! I know, I always mean to check at every gas stop... but I don't always. And I definitely check the Porsche more than the other cars.

POST 2Original post

I agree 100%. I just checked it after a deep cold spell that lasted a day. all tires were down 3 to 4PSI which can really affect the ride quality as well. Thanks

POST 3Original post

hi, i found this graph somewhere. i have used a 1psi change for each 10f change. this graph indicates 0.8psi for each 10f of change.

POST 4Original post

I keep my 1999 C2 Cab 996 in a garage and havent checked the tires since before winter set in. It's not been a real cold winter here in PA. But I was suprised to find no pressure loss since my last check. I have 18inch wheels and have 36psi front and 44psi rear. The only thing I can put that down too is when I last checked them the outside temp was in the 40sF and the same temps as they are today. I use the car daily and have put almost 9,500 on since last April. The car has 53500 on it with no problems. Apart from one thing. A PO must have missed a few gears and knackered up the gear box so I had that changed on an extended warranty which I got with the car. THanks for the heads up on the tire pressures. I will check them more often in future.

POST 5Original post

We have Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in wife's car, and when the temp drops significantly, it always triggers, and it looks like all four tires are having an issue. In reality, the air inside the tire contracts in the cold air, and expands in the warmer air. I live in Florida, so never too cold for too long, and if you fill them, then you have to release them a few days/weeks later when it's 80+ again, as they are then too high. It's a fun game her car and I play.

POST 6Original post

The primary cause of fluctuating tire pressures (usually attributed to temperature change) is the moisture content of the fill air. If you live in an high humidity region with big temperature swings, like Florida, have your tires filled with nitrogen. Nitrogen has several properties that make it the superior fill besides its immunity to moisture. Ask any track rat about this. relinuca
