What has been your experience of using your 996 in the winter?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Lastly, my dogs chewed my hose in 3 pieces and I have not been able to wash the car, that bothers me the most and I will get that fixed very very soon!!
The 996 seems to be fine in the snow....the C2 is good and the C4 even better. I'm probably more concerned about getting smacked by someone else driving above their skills & conditions than I am about problems with the 996 itself.
Yet, the 996 is low to the ground. Driving in snow could clog front air ducts or impacts of chunks of ice could damage the front spoiler or undercarriage. What has been your experience of using your 996 in the winter?
Any other advice/concerns you can share?
this heavy (7+ inches) of slush we have in the Seattle area now (Bellevue) looks too much for mine. I opted to start driving the suburban on Tuesday when the melting began. Also they sanded with 1/4"+ gravel and I took one in the roof somwhere. Sure that there is a paint chip. Lastly, my dogs chewed my hose in 3 pieces and I have not been able to wash the car, that bothers me the most and I will get that fixed very very soon!!
driving is of no concern AND i found it agile enough to get out of the way when trouble did show up. One guy flew across in front of me from a side street with wheels locked, I was able to stop and watch as he crunched his front end into a curb. Another was a Cherokee coming from behind way to fast, spun sideways and was coming up on my ***, I hit the gas and drove away as he spun off the road. Sure he would have tagged me too. All in all the worst is over right now for us, just watch the deep spots and wash the car when done as soon as you can. Stay WELL BACK of traffic on higher speed roads.
should have heated seat.
it takes good 30 min for the car to warm up to the regular temp.
winter tires is great.
all hit by a jeep in NYC, his rear wheel spanning in the ice and he's taking on the cellphone.
i hope he's not asking wife how to put on 4WD mode............
Lots of fun, great heating system, great seat heaters. Running Blizzaks (per Rennlist recommendations, of course). I do get some funny looks, however, and comments off and on, as others think I am a little crazy to have this car out in the snow.
Winter tires are essential even (especially?) with the C4S. Drove every day until the serious (Portland) snow hit. There was no way I wasn't going to high center on our street and my driveway for that matter. I expect I'll be back on the road by Monday as it is likely to be melted by then. If it wasn't for my street, I would already be back in the saddle, since the rest of town is just hard pack and ice.
Oh, BTW since I asked at the Parts Dept. There are rear wheel Porsche chains for the 18" and front and rear chains for the 17" 996. Didn't see the need for them personally, but I didn't know that previously and thought I'd pass it along.
Yes on the winter tires.
Last year I broke off one of the brake duct scoops that attaches to the control arm, and a little air duct that channels air into the radiator. Both of these happened in my driveway because ruts froze and turned to ice.
In general, 4" is about all one should drive in, unless it's really powdery... Deeper than that, and it might get challenging. (I do have the x74 suspension.)
