I had been looking for a used 996 on and off, but it really dawned on me that all I would be doing is changing cars but staying in the same situation I want to avoid.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does Porsche offer a decent program for buying a 911 (996) say recently off a lease which would still come with a warranty? My current car (98 M3) and my last car (84 944) are/were amazing. I love both of them, but I hate that they were both older and when things break (which we all know they do), I'm stuck without a car and with a decent bill for work. So I was thinking of trading up and getting something newer. One option is an e46 M3, ideally off a lease and with some kind of warranty. Another was going for a new car, maybe a 135i. I had been looking for a used 996 on and off, but it really dawned on me that all I would be doing is changing cars but staying in the same situation I want to avoid. I was primarily looking for earlier models (02 or earlier) but came to realize that I really could afford a little more to get a newer and hopefully cleaner example. So thats where the pre-owned idea came, but when I searched porscheusa it came up with only like 6 911's (not even just 996s) for under $40k. I know that isnt the case, but I also don't really know where to look. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Look on Autotrader, Ebay, Truspeed Motorsports, Weissach Autohaus in CT. .996 prices are down and most dealers and some independents offer extended warrantee on late model 996. Weissach Autohaus in Ct. usually has a number of 996s' for sale, and they offer extended warrantee. Buying an extended warrantee is not an issue, it's finding a replicable company that stands behind their warranty plan and paying a fair price for the warrantee. I hope you find what your looking for. www.weissachautohaus.com & www.truspeedmotorcars.com

Thanks for the info. Ill have to take a look at weissach. I'm in Fairfield now, so it isn't too far. The prices seem a bit higher, but I guess I would expect that not being private party. My biggest debate is a mix of practicality (which doesn't effect me 90% of the time) and fear of getting a car right as everything starts to wear out. That happened with a lot on my current M3, which I guess makes it nice knowing how much of it is new, but the bills werent as fun

POST 4Original post

I would think that Porsche's CPO program is what you're looking for. Earlier this month I bought my '04 Targa from a dealer near Detroit for about $2k more than your budget. The car was just off a 3 year lease and so it has the balance of the new car warranty (~10k miles or 9 mos, whichever comes first) and the dealer added the CPO which adds 24 months of warranty up to 100k miles. Based on my driving habits, the 2 years will lapse long before the car has 6 digits on the odometer. I found the car on Autotrader using the "Advanced" search function putting "certified" in the key word box. G/L with your hunt.

As stated below Porsche Pre-Owned Certified, is something definitely to consider and I'm sure Porsche offers an extended warranty on Pre-owned Certified cars. There may be a cost, but it may be worth the investment.

POST 6Original post

The problem with CPO cars is that they are often newer, with less mileage and much more expensive. I don't think he's going to find an '01 with a CPO unless the previous owner had one. My 2 cents would be to try Carmax. Their prices are good. I bought my last Porsche from them and their warranty program looked pretty good (even though I passed). They cover bumper to bumper and you can even go to the dealer for a slightly higher deductable ($75 vs $50)

Sorry if it was confusing. Originally I was looking for more of the early years. Now I'd say probably 05 or older, just based on price, but closer to that. I guess most of what I've looked at so far are in the $30-45k range, give or take.

If you get CPO from a dealer you will be paying a premium both for the car and warranty. To many that is worth it. But if you buy an '05 with less than 50k on it, then you have the manufacturer's warranty. Keep in mind there is no such thing as an aftermarket CPO. Adding a warranty after the fact on a P-car is expensive and risky. GL
