I am now going to delve into the powder coating to see if the crack issue is really going to cause problems.
Leading evidence: 'really going' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'really going' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking for some pics of grey type cars with black wheels. I was thinking about having my C2 wheels either refinished and painted black or having them powder coated in black. Also, what are the pros and cons of paint -vs- powder coating? Thanks.
go to the WHEELENHANCEMENT.COM website.....enter your kind of car.....it will bring up a page w/all the appropriate wheels for your car....click on the various wheels (even if they're not black), and you'll see links to all sorts of Porsche's w/different wheels.....there's a lot to look at)....you'll most probably find your color, with black wheels.
Maybe I'm old hat, but I'm not a big fan of black/dark wheels. I still like the contrast of the silver wheel/black tire on a dark colored car. I agree it's the "in" thing to have dark wheels, though.
For what it's worth, I have heard that you should NOT powder coat wheels because it can mask cracks and other structural damage. The track rats around my neck of the woods say it is a bad idea.
Palting, you can't be that old hat since the black wheels are a retro look tip of the hat to the fuchs. I like it, but only if you have a bright or highly polished rim with the black spokes. That is why I got the diamond black BBS RS-GTs. IT looks great on my Arctic Silver.
I saw a Carrera on the dealer's lot with the wheels painted at the factory to match the car color (black). The car looked good!
These wheels had a bright rim area that had been carefully masked. I liked the look so much I'll seriously consider painting the spokes of my Sport Classics when they nicked up a bunch. This wheel has a two piece design so the spokes interface with a polished rim and should be relatively easy to do.
Here is a picture of my car in action. It was taken at "Madness" at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. I have PSS9s and a lowered car so it is hard to tell from the picture, but the car is completely unloaded as I have just come over a hill (see the rear driver's side tire). In any event, I like the way the rims look with the dark centers and bright rims (for the all silver look, see my signature).
TD, thanks for the pic. I really likr the look. I am now going to delve into the powder coating to see if the crack issue is really going to cause problems. From what I have read about the process it is similar to ceramic or porcelain. Off to the wonderful WWW.
I don't buy the argument that powder coating masks cracks. We've raced on a ton of wheels that were powder coated, and have discovered flaws in a few, powder coating or not.
The big drawback with powder coating is the thickness (well, and it's heavier than paint). This usually means that the whole wheel gets powder coated. You can;t really do a polished lip, and a black center, as the transition from black to polished is a pretty big ridge, and not very clean.
I don't know, maybe there's a powder coating master out there who can't do it, but I have yet to meet them.
