I have a '99 with 31k which I bought in 2003 with 24k miles, and recently had to replace a dead battery.

The car has the original battery. It's been in the car since Feb 2002. That's 3 years and 6 months. I know the math is obvious, but I wanted to emphasize it. Runs fine, starts up fine, no problem, 32K miles. The age bothers me, though. Should I go ahead and change it just based on age?? If I do change it, how imprtant is that overflow tube? I don't believe any of the replacement non-OEM batteries have that tube.

I got 5 years and 2 months. If I drove my car every day I would have replaced it after 4 years - YMMV. The Duralast I got at Autozone has the vent tube - you really want one with a vent tube since the battery is in the car. Here is a link: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...46&#entry14446
