i recently read on 911 porsche & world mag (owners' guide specil edition) p.28 for those people out in uk, that boxster needs polyrib-belt change replacement @ 48.000k miles = 76.800k klms....(or of course earlier if needed....) when is this time due for our cars? (mine is a 996 C2 01) thanks

60,000 miles in the US, but in Europe it is a shorter time. 996/986 is the same.

The ROW and US service guides are on renntech.org as are instructions on how to replace the belt. We inspect the belt at 30,000 miles and replace it at 60,000. At our work on cars days we have replaced several 996/986 belts at 60,000 miles and they looked ok to me. We replaced them anyway because Porsche says to do it and the owners already had purchased the belt. It only takes a few minutes to replace the belt on a 996. It takes a bit longer on a 986 because we have to do it from inside the car. I think for ROW 997/987 Porsche increased the 48,000 mile change to 60,000.
