Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Embarassing considering how easy most people say the install is. I am freaking stuck on trying to get the dang **** off. I believe I have the standard shift **** (kinda looks like this
http://i9.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/43/87/76_1_b.JPG
but with a black boot rather than grey). I don't see any stinking screw that is holding the **** to the shifter. There is a sort of a rubber skirt thing when I lift the leather boot as far up the know as it will go. How the heck do I remove the shifter ****?
Edit: It is a 2001 C2. My sig has disappared for some reason and won't show up anymore....
Should have gotten a Schnell unit - it said so very clearly in their directions. -
Just kidding. Glad the issue is resolved. Good luck with the install. I'm picking up my car in a few hours with the Schnell SSK and can't wait to see how it is.
Be careful when you pull the shifter **** off of the shifter. It will take a lot of force, and it will come loose suddenly. You can smack yourself pretty well if this happens. I took two screwdrivers and placed on each side of the shifter shaft. The screwdrivers face in opposite directions so you can hold the handle of one screwdriver and the shaft of the other screwdriver in each hand. Sitting in the driver's seat, place your left forearm on your right knee. With your palm facing up, grab the left side of the two screwdrivers (already on each side of the shifter shaft) with your left hand and the right side of the screwdrivers with your right hand (also facing palm up). You can now use your left knee as a fulcrum and pry the **** off. It may go flying straight up, but you won't knock your teeth out.
If you received the "old" instructions with your B&M shifter, they will instruct you to disconnect the cables from the cable ends. DO NOT do this!
There are two important things that will make the process easier:
1. DO mark the cables, (this is a "just in case..." step)
2. DON'T disconnect the cables from the cable ends.
Instead of disconnecting the cables from the cable ends, you will just pull or pry the cable ends off of the shifter.
There are updated B&M instructions on their web site that eliminates the "disconnect the cables from the cable ends" step. See link below:

Gota911 - Thanks man for the detailed explanation. I got sick yesterday night so have spent the whole day today inside cooped up in a blanket. When I do get around to it again, I'll be printing out your instructions to take with me.
U can make it without takig off the **** until the whole unit is out of the car--thats what happened to me- then i put oem metal shifter in a vice and yanked--
Mike
i took my centre console off without taking the shifter and boot off. It was a little harder but i couldn't loosen the dam set screw on my shifter.
i like the idea of taking it off after removing the whole shift unit - good idea grizzy
It's definitely not the CF. It looks like this:

. But instead of being grey, everything, including the boot, is black. I, too, like the idea of taking it out after taking the stock shifter assembly out. Thanks all.
Edit: Does anyone have a pic of the aluminum shifter? Again, its a 2001 c2.
