As long as you are running the correct viscocity, the slightly increased heat generated from the pressure is a non issue.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is having the oil pressure gauge pegged at 5bar at anywhere above 3500rpm a bad thing? I've been paying close attention to my pressures, because the manual says that a warmed-up engine at 5000rpm should have a pressure of 3.6bar approximately. I feel like I'm usually above that. Forgive my ignorance, but is having high(er) oil pressure dangerous, and if so, what are the dangers? Will a warning light come on if the oil pressure is dangerously high?

POST 2Original post

The oil pressure sender is one possibility. I had a similar problem and it was a faulty oil pressure sender. However, you could try to clean up the connections to the sender first and see if that fixes the problem. Also, when I had the problem, my gauge was above 0 even when the engine is off and when the key is at the last position of the ignition before cranking. GL.

I think don't sweat it is a more appropriate response.

POST 6Original post

The weak link if the pressure would be too high is the canister for the oil filter would rupture.

POST 7Original post

Higher oil pressure (within pressures the engine and componants can handle) is better for the engine. As long as you are running the correct viscocity, the slightly increased heat generated from the pressure is a non issue. Think of oil pressure as the muscles surrounding your joints. When the muscles are strong, your joints remain tight and well protected. As the muscles become weak, the joints have less protection around them and start to become looser, increasing the risk of damage. Low oil pressure is particularly bad at low engine speeds and can be very dangerous to bearing.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so does high oil pressure equal lots of muscles? haha I'm using Mobil 1 0W-40, for what its worth.

POST 9Original post

So what IS your pressure at 5k rpm warmed up? Mine is about 3.4 bar, so in spec. When cold , it's easy to peg at 5 bar. I also use M1 0W-40
