I had origianlly purchased and installed the regular GHL myself and drove with them for about 6 months.

I usually run the porky under 5k rpm therefore, i don;t think the regular version would have enough.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm thinking about getting the GHL exhaust , but not sure about the "loud" version. I've heard that the regular version is only a bit louder than stock. I'm looking for PSE loudness ( but without the $$$). can any existing owners with the "loud" version of GHL provide some insights regarding the quality, resonance, and loudness. If you have some sound clips, that would also help me out. Thanks.
As soon as I get my regular version in and installed i'll post something. I had the same dilema. I opted for the regular version for fear of resonance and the pipe being overly loud. Ive been behind too many lud cars which I find annoying.. I just dont want to annoy others in that manner but at the same time would like to see/hear the difference from stock. Like to think my money went towards something good.
Damant -- The regular GHLs are more than a little louder than stock in all situations other than idle. I dont have any experience with the GHL loud version but i have heard PSE and I felt that the standard GHL was about the same loudness as PSE for about 1/2 the the price.
Good luck
The main concern i have about the "Loud"version is the possibility of resonace inside the car around the confort cruising zone of 2.5-4k RPM. It;s just that I have seen a few posts stating how they went to the Loud version after finding out that the regular version is not enough. I just don;t want to go through the hassel of exchanging...
on the same note. i've heard that the exhaust units take a short period of time to be broken in ( and get a bit louder). How long have you had yours CarreraMark?
Thanks for the inputs.
I ordered the "normal" mufflers from GHL yesterday. My concerns are the same as yours - I'll post my take as soon as I get them installed (and a sound bite if I can figure out how to do it)
I have the normal ones, they are plenty loud. At low rpm, nice rumble, louder than stock, quiter than PSE. But at WOT, sounds like a cup car, louder than PSE.
I had mine on for about 3 weeks. I thought they were great but decided that I wasnt a loud(er) muffler guy. I didnt notice it but I have heard that they break in over a period of time and that the sound gets deeper.
As someone said, the standard GHL is loud at WOT and was certainly noticeably louder in the 4 - 5K RPM range where I normally drive.
Hey clum553946 ,
Are you going to DIY. if yes, could you provide the instalation procedures. I would like to do it myself if possible. I seems quite simple....:-)
Thanks
I had origianlly purchased and installed the regular GHL myself and drove with them for about 6 months. I didn't feel that they were loud enough for me, and I think that the PSE was certainly louder. So I called GHL and had them send be the loud version for my '02 C2, took off the normal ones (I am good at this now, and can do it under an hour) and put the loud version on. I also have the orange plug in the airbox. Now with the louder version I am very satisfied. For those that fear resonance inside the car, there is none. The "louder" GHL's simply sound louder at higher RPM's and WOT, with no resonance inside the cabin at all.
I'd be happy to discuss more for those who wish to do so.
Cheers
Brad
Hi Bford,
first of all, thanks for your inputs.
I 'm seriously thinking of getting the Loud version at this point. I would like my porky to sound like PSE without the $. and ( ofcourse no resonance!)
Do i need any special tools for installation?
You mentioned in earlier posts that you had some leaks problem. How is it now, and how did you resolve the issue.
Thanks
damant:
The install is very straight forward. I didn't know the stocks were so much bigger. One of my buddies has a muffler shop, so I started to pull off the old system & about 2 minutes later he pulled me aside & did it for me. I watched & it's not a big deal. The thing you need is having ample clearance under the car! I just wanted to use his lift but I guess his pride got the better of him! Soundwise, the regular is pretty quiet, just a lower rumble at idle & sweet sound at WOT. This was basically what I was looking for, but I honestly think I could live with the loud version because there is no resonance or drone (especially at 4.5 - 5.5K) The quality is first rate & Brian is a right on guy! I won't exchange them for the louds because I'm happy with what I've got, but if I had a chance to listen to them first, I probably would have purchased the louds. Hope this helps, but whatever way you go the product is 1st rate. They fit w/o alteration too!
I bought the regular GHL's last year and I like them a lot. They are perfect for my car since I have a convertible. Like everyone says they are that loud at idle but when you jump on it it sounds great. I think there is a DIY if you do a search on renntech. I thought about doing this but I had a broken ankle when I bought the mufflers. It was much easier just going to a local muffler shop anyways.
Thanks everyone here for your inputs.
Loud is for me. I will find out soon enough! next week.
I usually run the porky under 5k rpm therefore, i don;t think the regular version would have enough.
can;t wait.
I just want to update you guys on my GHL experience.
I got the Loud GHLs installed for 3 days now and I looooove it !
finally got to release the beast in my porky.... the way it should have been !
low rumble <2.5k rmp and just plain beasty after that !
I don't have a recorder... but will find one.
just ordered the super high tech/cutting edge air intake kit today.
I also requested the special 2005 sport edition color too.
orange! :-)
I was thinking of a "real" recorder for decent sound recording.... if i can't find one, then i will use the labtop or my pocket pc .... but honestly, the sound clip wouldn't do justice... because there's no bass and thus there's no feel to it.
I'm so glad i didn't go with the regular version. The whole idea was to bring out the "aggressive porsche" exhaust sound.
This mod is the best. I find myself paying attention to the sound thus the feel of the engine now a day ... it's addictive ! kinda remind me why i bought a porsche.
which kit? you ask.... the one and only "orange cap" ofcourse ... :-).
I just want to experiment with it.... I doubt if i woud make a significant result though.
