I placed a GT2 rear spoiler on my car, I did notice some minor buffetting at 135mph, replaced the C4S lip with the larger Turbo lip, night and freakin' day.

Not to be polemic, but the only thing I'd say to that is you've already changed the dynamics of the car by lowering it with non-OEM suspension parts.

On the side, it is surprising how much small body changes can effect the aerodynamics, for example the so called Supercup vents on the front bumper together with shifting the radiator 15mm forward and tilting the upper edge forward, result is 17kg more of downforce!

So you are saying that it is a bad thing to change the suspension that porsche had set up on our cars??

I have 2 sets of OEM Mk.1 wheels, 1 set for street and 1 set for track with R compounds.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Porsche's factory suspension set up on our carreras are only moderate set ups intention for everyday driving and are not for the extremist or else why would track cars are all equipped with after market suspensions.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I regularly take the car to 150 mph and higher and have done so with and without the lip and there is no difference in the stability of the front end.
I know of the one that goes on the Aerokit (MK1) / GT3 front nose. I have this verison. (see pic - painted yellow) The question is, is there an extended one? Are we speaking of the same one? Mine was about $78.
C.
Thanks Justin. That's the same one I have. Mine will be black.
Hmm... I swear I have seen one that fits very similar, but the lip comes out farther towards the front.
Chad
1999,
Removing the lower front gurney lip seriously affects high speed handling/aerodinamics of the car in a negative way. It's there for a purpose and I suggest you put it back ASAP.
Chad,
Get the Mk.2 Supercup lower front gurney lip, drill new holes in the front bumper and fit with bolts rather than the OEM plastic rivets. I have one on order and have seen it done before. I'll see if I have a picture of it on a Mk.1. Part#996.505.986.91
Ciao,
Johannes E.
Hi Ben,
I actually prefer the look of the Mk.1 GT3 wheels compared to the Mk.2 ones. Since this is a trackday weapon and focus is on handling/performance, I will never change the wheels to anything not OEM since it seriously affects handling if you go outside the stock diameters, widths and offset.
I have 2 sets of OEM Mk.1 wheels, 1 set for street and 1 set for track with R compounds. The track wheels have dark grey painted centers and polished lip and look awesome on the car!
Ciao,
Johannes E.
Not to be polemic, but the only thing I'd say to that is you've already changed the dynamics of the car by lowering it with non-OEM suspension parts. So all that Porsche suspension design/tweaking has been thrown out the door.
And on top of that, the OEM wheels are very heavy. BBS LMs in 19s are most likely lighter than the stock 18s you have on there.
More rubber to the ground, baby!
Ben,
Who said that I lowered the car using non OEM suspension parts?! The car has bone stock chassi parts with track oriented geometry parameters.
Ciao,
Johannes E.
Chad, the earlier cup car lip is slightly bigger than the stock piece. That is the one I use. The later cup car lip is quite a bit bigger and extends forward somewhat. I was going to order one to see if I could make it fit. I'll take a pic of the early cup car lip tonight and send it if you like.
Jim
Ben, Ben, Ben...you are barking up the wrong tree my friend. He just got done telling you the car is setup for a track blaster. You have no idea what you are talking about. Why would put 19's on a track car? And the 19's would be in fact heavier. The BBS 19" LM's are 25.5 lbs for the rears alone (wheels only!). Those are in fact heavier. My old BBS track wheels were 18" and weighed 18 lbs.
Not mention, Johannes' car is a factory GT3 Mk1 Clubsport. It has a Factory adjustable coilover suspension made by H&R.
Please learn before writing / speaking.
C.
Chad....please keep me posted, I am interested in doing the same to mine. I like the lip that extends out instead of down like the one you are going for.
Rhamy,
As I have said; everything is for sale for the right money. Should the right offer come along, I might consider..................

vove,
The standard carrera chassi can do with some more suspension tweaks while the GT3's setup and hardware is good enough for trackdays and a bit more out of the box.

Have you lost the lower front gurney lip doing 200+km/h? I have so I guess you haven't because otherwise you would have known what I'm talking about. My GT3 does actualy not have much more than an inch clearance under the lip so perhaps it more for "show" on the standard Carrera. A friend of mine that used to work for Porsche in Weissach during the years when the Mk.1 GT3 was developed has showed me footage of windtunnel tests with the aerokit and you would be surprised how much effect that little lip has.
Ciao,
Johannes E.
Theres no doubt that the GT3 is prep for the track, but my carrera is not prep such as the GT models. I totally forgot you had GT3 and did not read your sig.

I regularly take the car to 150 mph and higher and have done so with and without the lip and there is no difference in the stability of the front end.
If your claim is true, then it is possible that your alignment parameters are out of whack and you are therefore not feeling the difference even from lower speeds. One would have thought that the Porsche engineers put it there for a reason, since the lip is really not that good looking and is getting scraped all the fu**ing time.
On the side, it is surprising how much small body changes can effect the aerodynamics, for example the so called Supercup vents on the front bumper together with shifting the radiator 15mm forward and tilting the upper edge forward, result is 17kg more of downforce!
Here is a pic of my car after the Supercup mods were done.
Ciao,
Johannes E.
Yep!! That's the one. Was this the part number you previously posted, Johannes? Also, did you do the Super Cup mods on the bumper yourself? I was looking to do this once I ordered the third radiator.
C.
Chad,
I realize I'm a couple days late but here is the shot I promised of the 99+ cup car spoiler. As you can see, it's just like the stock one only a little longer. As others have suggested, I bolted it on rather than using the plastic rivets. I'm going to switch to the new cup car version this season.
As you can also see, my car came right out of the truck from VIR and was stuffed in storage until my garage was finished last week. I think I have some cleaning up to do. Maybe I should start a thread on how not to store your car for the winter.
Jim
No rodents in the new garage! The good news is, I spun on the last lap of the enduro and we still came in first in class and first of the stock class cars. The bad news is, there is enough grass and crap under my car to start a small farm. Give me a couple of weeks, it will look as good as new.
I placed a GT2 rear spoiler on my car, I did notice some minor buffetting at 135mph, replaced the C4S lip with the larger Turbo lip, night and freakin' day. Stable as a rock to 155mph so far.
Thus, I think there is some truth to the mandatory addition of a front lip when you add a larger rear spoiler in these cars.
I have the stock C4S sport suspension on mine and it has been plenty good on the track, esp Watkins Glen!
As an FYI, The Racers Group has the MK2 front lip spoiler in stock... just ordered mine yesterday!
Although they did mention that they bolted this lip onto all of their track cars, they recommended using the plastic rivets for street use... better to shear of a ~$120 part than mess up the entire front clip...
