Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I checked posts, nothing firm.
No plastic bags under car, clutch seems fine, belts seem good. wheels not extremely hot. Tires not rubbing. But there is a definite burnt rubber smell coming from drivers side rear tire well.
I will take to dealer, but they don't seem very confident in anything I ask them to due or order.
Thank you.

Curious. I had this happen recently. It was after a long road trip. Car is in the shop now for possible timing chain tension issue. I told the mechanic about the smell. We'll see. Please keep us posted.

Has your car been doing this since day 1?
Any chance this is the "cosmoline" type-stuff that they put on the underside of the car to protect it during overseas shipment? The stuff tends to "burn" off and *could* be mistaken for burned rubber. My car is nearly 4 years old with 11K miles and I still smell it "burning" off.
It's the stuff that gives your aluminum under-car parts that yellowish color.
My wife and I got away for a few days before New Year's. We drove up the Washington coast. On the way back we noticed a wump wump wump noise at idle. Oil level was good, pressure seemed high (5 at cruise speed, 3.5 ~ 4 at idle). Drove it back about 100 miles and noticed the burnt rubber smell when we got home. The tires and belt were not hot. Not a friction plate (clutch) smell.
It's been in the shop a week now. Wayne, the mechanic at Motor Sport International took the clutch apart and didnt find anything wrong. He took the engine out to examine the timing mechanism and that turned out okay. He dropped the pan to examine the oil and found metal shavings. Hopefully my extended warranty will cover the cost of a new engine.
56700 miles on the engine. I bought the car last June and changed the oil 3 months ago.
My wife is not happy.
Ill keep everyone updated.

I also sensed the burt smell, but I was always under the impression that it was the tire compound of the summer tires. I recently put winter tires that have a different composition and not always, but sometimes I still get the burt smell. If someone can identify the cause of this, please post it!
Also a 'burner' here......02 C4 Cab.......actually most every nite when I pull it into the garage after the drive home......seems like it's always done that.
I noticed this recently as well. Right rear wheel well. Recently started using the heat in the car so I thought the smell might be a belt. Just has my 45k service a month ago. Oil pressure has been running 1.5-2 at idle and 4.5 at cruise....
