Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found one cracked while changing my plugs. Performance lists for $56 and the dealership lists for $23. I normally don't find the dealership lower in price. Am I missing something here? Scott at Hendrick insists it's the right part.

POST 2Original post

Just a guess, but it may be that the dealer is only quoting the socket for the spark plug (2) and Performance is quoting the entire assembly (1). Have them each give you a part number and see if they match.

POST 3Original post

Pat, I believe Don is correct. I don't recall the year of your car but here ate the part numbers for #1 & #2 in Don's diagram above. For model years '99 - '01 #1 = 996 602 101 01 #2 = 996 602 103 01 For model years '02 - '04 #1 = 996 602 104 00 #2 = 996 602 105 00

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, the only part that's bad is the boot. Maybe I can save $40 and just replace that, if that's what Scott quoted. Performance quoted as 1 unit.
