I didn't get yellow for any other reason except that it was the only color that made me feel "giddy" as you put it.

Suggestion

I think speed yellow in a C4S is one of the best colors for the widebody and though black looks meaner-just the thought of keeping it clean keeps me away from it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm in the market for a C4S coupe. I'm torn b/t Speed Yellow and Black, each with black interior. Coming off 3 black cars in a row (E36 323, Honda S2000, M3), and always having admired M3s in Dakar Yellow, I'm thinking SY. For those of you who went for SY, any regrets? For those who liked but did not choose SY, any regrets? Of course, color is a personal thing, and some cars wear certain colors better than others, but my thinking is that Black would likely show the car's lines better, but yellow is certainly extroverted and 'fun'. Thoughts? I know, I know, perhaps a silly question, but it's paining me.

POST 2Original post

I think speed yellow in a C4S is one of the best colors for the widebody and though black looks meaner-just the thought of keeping it clean keeps me away from it. Of coarse it's a personal choice and if it were me I wouldn't have ne regrets on speed yellow. Regards and good luck. Mike

POST 3Original post

Black is a pain and I now wish I had cobalt blue or dark blue for my TT. The Atlas Grey is a great color and holds up well compared to black. The metalics do not show rock chips as bad. Yellow would probably hold up pretty good also conpmared to black.

POST 4Original post

Speed Yellow, Guards, or Lapis would definitely be preferred for me. Frankly, I don't think the lines on the 996 (versus the 993) favor the black color. A black 996 is not as sexy as a black 993 to me. I washed my 993 about every 4 driving days last summer. Zymoled it about every 3 weeks. I had to stay on top of it because every flaw was accentuated. I bought my Arctic Silver 996 used. A.S. was not even my 3rd color choice but this car was in perfect shape whereas the dozen cars I looked at in my preferred colors were not. So I went with AS. It has been a wonderful color especially for the longer cruises our club has had this year. Not sexy but I am thrilled with the condition otherwise.

POST 5Original post

I'd go black. And black/black is best on resale. I think SY "works" on some cars (GT3) and may work on a C4S, but I also think it's an "eye of the beholder" thing. Seal Grey is a great effect, but resale is poor and it might "wear" on the owner. Porsche limits colours and perhaps for good reason. In the 996 C4S body, the proportions -- if not the lines -- work so well, it's hard to go wrong. All that said, I'd go black and just budget on the time and effort to keep it clean and free from swirl marks.

POST 6Original post

I would go for yellow before black. It is a much bolder "statement" than black. Many of the early 997 photos are of a speed yellow car and it looks great. Will

POST 7Original post

I'm intrigued by this statement as I own a SG car. What's the basis for this? Too many Seal Gray cars?

POST 8Original post

I was going back and forth between SY and Lapis Blue. In the end I got the blue. Although I still like the SY, I just felt that it stood out too much and was shouting "ticket." I had a red BMW once and got at least two tickets just because of the visibility.

POST 9Original post

I love speed yellow, but it definitely attracts attention. I have a friend with with 3 911's; he got several tickets in quick succession in his speed yellow 993 and is convinced the color did him in.

POST 10Original post

Lapis blue and grey is a great combination. Our Cayenne is that combination and it looks even better on a 996. Cobalt Blue is very cool. Check out www.6speedonline.com in the Turbo section for a cobalt, black, with cobalt painted rear center console and painted sport seat backs. It looks awesome.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here's the car I'm contemplating. Can't help myself. . . I get all giddy inside.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

An interior shot. It's funny. I've always loved yellow sports cars, and sort of assumed that since I thought they look hot, everyone must. My wife thinks I should get black, and my secretary thinks yellow ruins a perfectly good Porsche. I never expected yellow to be so polarizing on a Porsche. . . since the car, IMHO, can pull it off.

POST 13Original post

Frayed: My 2 cents worth is go for the Speed Yellow. I have a C4S that is Carrera White with Natural Leather Brown Interior. The white on the C4S contrast nicely with the black of the air intakes, chin spoiler, side skirts, and the air outlets on the rear flanks. I have a friend with a gorgeous TT that is black on black and the only problem with the black is all of the body details unique to these cars blends in and is lost. Therefore, with the yellow you would get the contrast. Hope that helps.

POST 14Original post

Jeff, That's a good looking car. If SY does it for you, then by all means, get it. If you don't and that's the color you like, you will regret it every time you see one. What year is it? What options are on it? Is it through a dealer/certified or PP?

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

CLL, Turned back on a lease, held by the leasing company. So, not certified. I'll have it checked by the dealer before I take delivery. The notable options are: Bose Sport seats Painted seat backs and console Carbon fiber bits Xenon Whatever C4S I get will see track time, so the immediate purchases for the car will be a second set of wheels for some PSCs and perhaps the X73 setup.

POST 16Original post

Car looks awesome. It just needs yellow belts.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Agreed. I'm hoping the car checks out OK.

POST 18Original post

I think yellow with the turbo nose and the rear fender slits looks awesome.

POST 19Original post

Appropos of nothing - I have an AS/black car and AS was my first choice. After two years I am liking a car with more depth of color and kinda like the SG. Surprised to hear that it doesn't re-sale well. The SY C4S looks awesome. I love SY for sports cars - especially for Ferraris.

POST 20Original post

I went through the black/grey and SY debate myself. In the end, I chose SY and I can't picture myself in the black or grey now. I LOVE IT!!!! If you like the SY, get it. Don't worry about what happens next... to be honest, I think the 4S looks amazing in SY and the color contrast with black interior is awesome. I love driving my car, and looking at my rear view mirrors and seeing the contrast between the black leather and the yellow rear view mirrors (no idea why).

POST 21Original post

Depends on your personality and paranoia factor. I had a bright yellow MR2 Spyder. The car looked great and certainly attracted a lot of attention. But, to me, a bright yellow Porsche just says hey, look at me! and I am not really into that but I know some people are and if that is your bag I took at guards red car for a drive and felt as though I had a huge arrow pointing at me saying Come and give me a ticket! I would probably feel the same in the yellow. In the end I went for the Lapis blue and I am very happy with it understated but still looks fantastic. Barry

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks fellas, great feedback.

POST 23Original post

This is my second Porsche and both have been Speed Yellow. No regrets. For me the yellow looks good and gives the car a sporty look. However if you have any doubts, it may not be the color for you.

POST 24Original post

When I first got my yellow Boxster, I felt self-conscious about it. That lasted a few weeks, to be honest. Then I forgot all about it! I didn't get yellow for any other reason except that it was the only color that made me feel "giddy" as you put it. Which is the best reason of all. Ultimately, it's YOUR car, so get the color YOU really want. And if it's yellow, get a Valentine 1 too (it will attract a little more attention).

POST 25Original post

No regrets on the SY, and love the interior bits painted to match. I have light grey full leather w/ dark grey deviating carpet. For my next Porsche, I'd do it all again. Cheers, DT

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Your Boxster if f'ing sweet. Totally feeling it. Well, good news. Car checked out with a clean bill of health, one owner, non smoker, no accidents, original paint, and 2 year left on the warranty. I put a $500 deposit down today, and gotta sell off my children so I can write that check. Should be mine in a week!

POST 27Original post

Now that you have the easy part of the deal done, congratulations. Time to start thinking about mods.......suspension.....short shifter.....exhaust.....interior pieces....and the list goes on and on.....The purchase price is nothing more than a down payment....

POST 28Original post

I too am on my second SY Porsche and have zero regrets!! My 2002 C4S is very similar to the pic you posted, except that it also has yellow stitching, yellow seat belts, yellow faced dials, and color-matched rims! I never get tired of it, and it shows off the car's lines beautifully. But it sure does get attention - all the time. You just have to get used to it! Besides, there's something magical about driving alongside a schoolbus full of little kids, all chanting "Porsche! Porsche!" Go for it!

POST 29Original post

Black = WORK, WORK and MORE WORK - But in the end - DAM she looks GREAT !

POST 30Original post

Is there a reason it is called speed yellow? Is it different than fly yellow? I grew up in Italy and remember "fly yellow" ferrari's and alfas, not speed yellow.

POST 31Original post

Fly yellow and speed yellow are different shades. I have seen Fly Yellow special ordered on Porsches before. The Fly yellow seems to be a bit lighter, not as orangish if that makes sense. Porsche has used Speed Yellow for a long time. I think I like Speed Yellow better, but they both are cool and 911s look good in Fly Yellow also.

POST 32Original post

Good on you! It's not a matter of saying "look at me". Sports cars are by definition extrovert and therefore I believe the colour should match. The Speed Yellow is beautiful on that car. In a world of dull-coloured Porsches you have definitely made the right decision. Harry

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Harry. It's funny, I've read posts on this board along the lines of "If yer gonna go, go BIG" and "only live once" and so forth. Well, I finally thought that I have no reason to be conservative; I have my own business, no corporate bullchit to deal with, no feelings to hurt, no image to uphold. So, I'm going in deep baby! Flyin' out to pick it up on Monday. The only thing more exciting picking it up, is getting it onto the track. I'm. . . . all. . .. . giddy.

POST 34Original post

Jeff: Good for you buddy! If it is anything like my last car you'll have little kids pointing and tugging their Dad's sleeve every time you drive by. Wishing you nothing but the best of luck with it! Barry

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Barry Tough to ruin a 911 with any color paint, so it's all good. It's a risk for me, as now I *better* be faster than all my BMW friends. . speed yellow requires that I turn a faster lap than the bimmerheads.

POST 36Original post

The frame read " Tastes Great" on top and "Less Filling" on the bottom. I know lots of bimmer pilots in this town and some took me seriously. Outsiders got a good laugh, which was my intention.

POST 37Original post

Sports car should be BOLD; Sedan should be elegant. Love my SY except one time happen couple days ago - when I stop in middle line at traffic light, a yellow cab pulled right next to me. and couple seconds later a school bus pulled left side of me... suddenly, I felt blend in... =) Be BOLD, it's a 911 and you can't hide anyway... Eddiemou ----------------------------------- 99 C2 SY

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

LOL! At least you weren't swarmed by bumblebees!

POST 39Original post

Now THIS is Speeeeeeeed yellow. Off topic, I know, but I couldn't resist.
