Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

what is a good condition car running for these days?
Leading evidence: 'Run these days' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run these days' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Summertime; $43,000-45,000 for a low miler 1999 coupe in excellent condition in the Pacific Northwest. Cars available at $38 to $40k were not taken care of. Plenty of advertisers are claiming mint condition and when I arrived I was greatly disappointed. I would say that 75% of the cars for sale are (surprisingly) misrepresented as to their condition.
So Cal is about the same - low 40's for a nice coupe with low miles. When I bought my 99 in Feb a C2 available in the high 30's had 50k plus miles or was poorly maintained.

I bought a pristine '99 C2 for $41.8K incl tax & license from a lot in Modesto, CA., 36K miles. Others I'd seen in like condition were mid-$40K to low-$50K. It did need $400 of DentPro work on a few dings, but that was easy to take care of.
I bought a pristine '99 for $41.5k from an ebay dealer in May on the east coast. The car was exactly how they described it. Many people ask me on the street if it is brand new. The exterior is nearly flawless, while the interior has several scuffs (the "full" leather is easily damaged). I just rolled 26k miles on it and it runs, looks and smells like brand new. I am really happy with it (and I really can't afford an '02 or '03).
I've been steadily watching ebay to see where prices are and they are steadily coming down to the $40k price range. Many people are smoking something thinking they'll get in the 50's or even 60's for a '99 or '00. I'd say stick to your guns and push to get one for the low, low 40's. They're out there. You can always have the car checked out at a dealer and an autobody shop if you do not trust what the seller is saying. IRA Porsche checked out my car and gave it flying colors.
Anyone care to take a guess how much of a premium, if any, there would be on a Cab over a Coupe for these years (pre facelift)? I'd hazard 5K if roof is in great condition?
