On level ground, with a cold engine, the electronic oil level indicator is showing "one bar" under full, but checking the dipstick confirms level up to the mark.

I've been told that the most accurate way to check your oil is when the car is fully warmed up because oil expands when it is hot.

I just note where the levels read right after changing the oil and use that as my proper reading.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Running the car hard can burn off some impurities and moisture which may slightly affect the overall level, but your gauges seem to be functioning just fine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This is the first time in 2 1/2 years ownership that the engine has ever displayed less than a full sump and I have never had to add oil between services.....
I wouldn't worry about it. Depending on how hard the car is driven, the level can vary up and down a small amount. There is mention of this in the owner's manual.
I really don't use the e-gauge. I always end up "verifying" things with the dipstick at the rear.
Never had to add oil during 2.5 yrs of ownership? There's nothing wrong with that!
I have added about 1 quart over 2.5 yrs, which is nothing unusual. Running the car hard can burn off some impurities and moisture which may slightly affect the overall level, but your gauges seem to be functioning just fine.
Peter,
Why would you check your oil when it is cold. I've been told that the most accurate way to check your oil is when the car is fully warmed up because oil expands when it is hot. After you shut it off, let it sit on a level surface for 15 minutes to ensure that all the oil has drained back into the pan - then check it. This will give you the most accurate reading.

Apparently, the electronic gauge is more accurate than the actual dipstick. Sounds strange to me too, but either way, they should both be close, if not identical.
I have been told by 2 seperate porsche mechanics that the guage is more accurate than the dip stick. I check both for piece of mind. They are always pretty close to each other. I just note where the levels read right after changing the oil and use that as my proper reading. It's better to be low on oil that have too much. (within reason).
I had a boat one time that would run like the wind until it warmed up. I found that the dip stick was recalled because it was too short. I had been about a quart over capacity. Drained a quart and I was back to the races.
I'm sure there are a lot of opinions about this... cold car > 15 sec at idle > 1 minute wait = your oil level, that's the way BMW has us do oil level checks on M cars. I understand flat boxter engine is quite different from what BMW does, but the ideology behing the procedure remains the same, no?
