Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The central locking on my 996 has locked the front lid while I had the battery out for replacement. I can't open the lid without power for the lock. Is there an emergency release or any other way for me to get in to put a new battery in place? Sailor666

POST 2Original post

Ha, I came a millisecond from doing that when I pulled my battery out yesturday. Search the forum, I remember there's instructions for an emergency manual latch to open the front hatch. FYI- how old was your battery and how often do you drive it. Mine's an 01, driven once or twice a week only, so it finally dies this weekend.

POST 3Original post

What year? These should help: 2002+ there is a jumper point in the fuse box where you can attach a 12 volt battery. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...opic=2751&st=0 http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2151

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the various advice. I will try yo find the manual release cable and if I cant get it I will have a go at rotating the cam on the levers. For info the car is 5 years old and the original batteery has just gone after 130000 miles. Sailor

POST 5Original post

The same thing just happened to me on Friday. I have a '99 and I just attached a 1 amp battery charger to the jumper box in the engine bay (right above the air box). The instructions for jumping the battery are in the owners manual.

POST 6Original post

sailor, 130,000 miles? Please give us a short description--or long --about your experience with the car. I'm pretty sure that may alay some of the minds around here! Geert

POST 7Original post

First post and no pics, description fo the car, nothing? Come on, if you posted here you have to be familiar with the site. We need pics and an introduction. What model, year, mods, etc. ..........waiting

POST 8Original post

The emergency release for the front bonnet is located in the void ahead of the right front wheel. Remove wheel, remove plastic wheel well liner, and grab the loop end of the metal cable. While you're in there, take the opportunity to reroute this cable (will need to remove right headlight unit). Run it down behind the front bumper; out through the hole used to attach the towing hook. Then, fasten it to the tow hook plug with a piece of fishing line; push it back in through the hole; and replace the plug. Now, whenever you have a need, you just pop out the plug, pull out the cable using the fishing line, thne a quick jerk on the cable will pop your front bonnet.

POST 9Original post

Then, after you've done this, be sure to never leave anything valuable in the front trunk in case anyone else reading this thread has mischief on their mind.

POST 10Original post

Ha, Ha, that's funny stuff. Sorry, but it is funny.

POST 11Original post

When you drive a Cab, you never .... NEVER .... want to leave anything of value in the car, anywhere. New tops are very expensive. Having driven ragtops for a long time, I guess I'm out of shape for thinking of the security of objects therein. Even so, I think I would take my chances against the odds of someone being a thief, in possession of this information, and in a position to use it .... all at the same time.
