Had the 'COMAND' center (yes, they spell it that way) replaced THREE times under warranty.

Of all their models the CL is probably the most reliable of the bunch, but by no means is it as reliable as a 996TT.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I heard the S class mercedes is not reliable at all....but this is the CL (long coupe) and SL ( 2door convertible) I am talking about.

POST 2Original post

All Mercedes have had their share of electrical gremlins over the past 5 years. Of all their models the CL is probably the most reliable of the bunch, but by no means is it as reliable as a 996TT.

POST 3Original post

As a former tech for both brands, I can say without hesitation that MB's reliability should not even be compared with the 911. The Porsche is light years beyond those German Buicks.

POST 4Original post

Are you considering a TT as an alternative to cars of this ilk? A 996 is going to drive and feel very different from those Mercedes. Much harsher and much smaller. To me, that means much much more fun. To many, that means I'm out of my mind. My point is that a Porsche is not the boulevard and autobahn cruiser that a Mercedes is. Be sure you know what you are getting into.

POST 5Original post

Well put DCP - I looked at an SL and a CL - if you want to "drive", buy Porsche - if you want to "ride", go MBZ

POST 6Original post

one can't compare a benz of any variation to a porsche... that's why i got both.. completely different driving experiences/beasts.. like buying a car vs an suv...

POST 7Original post

I've owned two Porsches in the past 7 years ('99 and '04, still have the '04). Also own a '00 S500. Drives like a dream, but a Benz dream. Had the 'COMAND' center (yes, they spell it that way) replaced THREE times under warranty. Nowadays with Chrysler how-to-it going on, body panels on the Benz are no longer put together as well as in the old days. Fast and cheap is how they do it now (yes, we tear them down in the shop sometimes, so we see it first hand). But Benz is Benz. For a heavy four door people toter, it's great. For a pucker-your-butt and put-permagrin-on-your-face experience, nothing will beat the Porsche. Nothing. Have you driven the CL? I felt like I was in a freaking cacoon. Way too tight. I'm 6' and it was tight inside. SL? yawn.
