And personally, I'd go with the EVOMs just because of the size of the installed base.
Leading evidence: 'Install base' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install base' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Taken altogether, these things have changed the way the engine runs in a way that I enjoy.

Orig Poster, I have an EVOMS CAI that I used for about 6k Miles I will sell.

I like it a lot, I bought it used so price wasn't a big factor for me.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know that intakes have been covered many times and there are many that feel that Porsche got it right with the stock intake. Let's put that aside for the time being
and help me decide which intake would be the best way to go.
I have birthday coming up and the wifey is going to hook me up with a new intake. Looking at the total picture, I currently have a Fabspeed Maxflo exhaust and will be looking to flash the ECU once I have the new intake installed to maximize the benefit of the mods. Utimately, I'm looking for a bit more grunt, improved throttle response and do not want to degrade performance. I track the car about once a month and feel like the intake and flash maybe just the ticket.
I'm really torn between two vey different intakes. I really like the newer EuroCupGT Twin Intake Kit 996 Carbon Fibre Y Pipe. Very little out there about this one. I have some concerns with the intake not aligning with the air scoop(s) in the deck lid and sucking a lot of hot air. If I go this route, I would add a hole and scoop on the right side for the second filter. I think if I can get the alignment right it would be pretty sweet set-up in addition to being some serious eye candy.

The EVOMs V-Flow while now where near as cool looking has a solid reputation and appears to more of CAI. It also comes with a dry filter to minimize any maf fouling. I haven't really read negative on this one.

Really torn and appreciate your thoughts on which one to pick
.
Throw a BMC filter in and call it a day. and/or... If you're looking for more sound buy a schnell bypass hose and cap. These items will cost under 200. This is what I've run for a couple years now. No MAF issues.
+1. That's exactly how my race car's intake is setup after testing the Evoms air box on a dyno. We found more WHP with the OEM box, BMC filter, and Schnell orange hose & cap.
The other modification I made is I bought FVD's enlarged throttle body for $335. (+/-) and that also showed strong results on the dyno. The IDP plenums have failed in several independent tests to show any improvement without the addition of a larger throttle body. Then you're guessing was it the TB or the plenum or both. For the money I'd just do the TB and a good flash (Softronic?).....
There's lots of snake oil salesman out there. Caveat emptor...
Let's define "Porsche got it right."
Manufacturers never have the luxury of creating a part with only one parameter in mind. Ever. In the case of the intake, Porsche had to contend with performance, but also with cost, perhaps emissions, and - very importantly - with noise. Most aftermarket intakes wouldn't pass certification for use in Germany because they're too loud. People who say that you can't do better than Porsche did don't really understand what it takes to build a car.
So, as with any mod, you have to consider the possibility that an aftermarket specialist doesn't have to live with the same constraints that a OEM does, and therefore improvement is theoretically possible if different sacrifices are made, such as to noise or manufacturing cost. Your problem then becomes sorting the bogus ones from the properly engineered ones.
I have the EVOMs intake. I also have the IPD plenum, EVOMs exhaust, and a REVO flash. Taken altogether, these things have changed the way the engine runs in a way that I enjoy. I haven't bothered to dyno it. I just know it's a little rowdier, seems to pull harder above 5000 rpm or so, and feels great at WOT.
Personally, I wouldn't bother with an intake unless you were going to modify your exhaust and ECU accordingly. And personally, I'd go with the EVOMs just because of the size of the installed base. But I don't have a shred of evidence to support that. Just like everyone else on this thread
I've spoken with my independent mechanic about this. He tunes and races Porsches and Audis. One comment that I've heard him make is that an ECU flash can be effective with an intake and exhaust mod, but it requires higher octane fuel that we typically see at the pumps here in Colorado. 91 octane is as good as it gets here.
Are those of you with an ECU flash running premium pump fuel, or putting in booster/additive? Just curious...
That's not true. Yes you can get more out of a flash with higher octane if the flash can read the higher octane. Most "street" flashes like GIAC ro Softtronic are set for 91 octane. I get 282 RWHP out of my stock 3.4 with 91 octane gas, open exhaust (stock manifolds), and the larger TB. That's about 325 flywheel HP...
But many of those mods, ECU flashing, etc... sacrifice torque for HP or move the torque band up the rpm range. Bueno for a race track not so bueno for the street.
I was going to "mod" my 40th AE and more I researched the more I found the x51 engine I have is about as good as it's going to get. NO plenum, edu, exhaust, intake is going to make it much faster / quicker vs. the $ I would have to put in.
BTW the x51 is an expensive $10k+ upgrade and adds 25hp total.
I thought it made a significant difference, more than I expected. Dyno went from 266 to 282 with the TB and dumping crossover pipes and going straight out the back. No mufflers or cats before, just crossover pipes. I already had GIAC's street flash for 91 octane, I should have stated that previously....
I put in a Fabspeed Maxflo Competition cold air intake about a year ago and I like it a lot. I do maybe 10 track days/year. Great sound, great throttle response, a couple HP (I think), no MAF issues. DIY install in a couple of hours; about $500. Happy.
Evoms CAI,Evoms-it Flash,FVD Headers and FVD 200 Cell sport catalytic convertors and TUBI mufflers,IPD plenum.Yes alot of money for what some would say very little in return! And then i drive it and it sounds amazing, pulls great thru the rev band(better than before i think)and overall im very impressed with these upgrades, these arguments or opinions have been going on forever on this forum.Alot depends on your cash flow or the amount of Porsche fever you have....LOL
996_C4S I really like Fabspeed also. In addition to being a beautiful bit of kit, it looks like it is positioned in the right spot under the air scoop to capitalize on air flow to minimize sucking in hot air. Is it true that CF dosent conduct heat like plastic would?
Those of you that have installed the Fabspeed intake feel like you've gotten better throttle response and overall improved grunt? Any regrets?
Randy that looks good! How do you like the throttle response with the EVOMS? Do you also have a B&M short shift kit? I have that on my mod list. How do you like it?
yes i do the b+m short shift kit one of the better bang for the bucks, really sweet!!!!throttle responce much better in the lower rev range, its all about the overall driveability not just an increase in horsepower, although that helps, but its very limited what can be done to a normally aspirated engine, thats why you remap the ecu....imo
I have the fabspeed intake on my car. I like it a lot, I bought it used so price wasn't a big factor for me. I definitely noticed a better throttle response and coupled with my maxflo mufflers it really screams at WOT.
Intake
This is quite impressive and never thought a TB update would do that. Two questions.
1. when you say "stock 3.4", do you mean bolt ons only with no headwork/cams?Do you have anything else besides modified exhaust, filter, tb, ecu to get this hp figure?
2. Has the "area under the curve" suffered at all? I ask because you are using your setup as a race-car where you're more often in the peak areas and might be less concerned with the lower end power band.
Thanks
