Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

24 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does a intake housing from a 997 fit on a 996? I thought I saw someone post a picture and said it was interchangeable (bolt on). Only change I think was you would need a 997 air filter vice a 996.

I don't mean to be a jerk, but why did you start this thread instead of searching for the one you saw?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just looks better, performance should be the same. A couple of plastic tabs on my 996 are broken off and I am thinking of replacing. Someone had a used one they were selling - unfortunately when I saw the picture of it, it was from a turbo.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Your right i should have searched more, I was thrown off because I couldn't find a picture of it. The 997 turbo looks much different and I didn't understand how it could fit in a 996. Subsequently I found some pics on 6speed-on-line and realized what the situation was. Sorry for the duplication.

POST 8Original post

here is one http://www.gmpperformance.com/index....arge&IMG=27976

POST 9Original post

X2 Why whould you want it? Ive seen them. No HP gain. It looks newer but certainly changes the 996 looking original. Kind of looks "wrong" in a 996 engine bay.

POST 10Original post

I bought one and installed it to realize how silly it looked - it said 3.8 on it and my engine is a 3.6 so I returned it

POST 11Original post

I have one and pop my engine lid any chance I get at the mall parking lots to show it off to any passerbys.

POST 13Original post

how is it "more volume" if the restriction at the intake inlet is the same size? or more volume due to it taking up more space?

POST 14Original post

Different larger air filter? Might might have less restriction when partially dirty? Gives 50 HP gain just like CAIs?? Makes the car 5mph faster like changing out the Pumkins?

POST 15Original post

Same air filters. Just looks purdy but for this kind of part, I don't really see it making too much sense since you(and possibly your mechanic) is the only one that's gonna see it unless you have a show car. Sort of like the guys that want nice and shiny mufflers that no one will see, or how about that polished and anodized SSK assembly that will be hidden by all that leather.

POST 16Original post

People equate polished, anodized, shiny parts to high quality when in fact, none of these have anything to do with it. But it sells the parts and all that matters.

I agree 100% Also getting tired of seeing over abundance and misuse of carbon fiber on road cars(even tackier when they are overlays or fake cf).

POST 19Original post

I cross referenced the P/N for both 996 and 997 air filters and they appear to be exactly the same. Even the pictures look identical. So if the cross section of the filter is the same then no matter how pretty the box you aren't going to get any improvement. Perhaps the sound may be different due to the box characteristics but seems like a lot of money spent for nothing.

Exactly. I elected to get the silicone hose instead and remove the resonator chamber to gain internal chamber volume and cap off the hole. Working on making CNC Aluminum cap off plates shortly. Over half the cost of 997 box and makes it sound better.

POST 21Original post

OK I read this entire thread because the OP asked about changing the intake housing. Silly me, I thought he was asking about the intake manifold not the stupid air box. I was all excited for naught....

Ditto, thought someone had hit on something worthwhile!

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry to confuse everyone. I just have a part on the car that is not in great shape and some one I know offered me a used part from a later model car at a good price that I thought was form fit replacement (because it was from a turbo it wasn't).

POST 24Original post

Ok but this part is called the air filter housing and not an intake. I was also hoping to see a manifd discussion, not a filter housing thread. Visually the newer hpusing looks better.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
