I would like to run Champion RG5 rims (8.5x20 / 11.5x20) with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's (255/30/20 / 325/25/20)

Anyone interrested in slightly used GT2 wheels with almost new rubber?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Any opinions welcome...
Those wheels are cool looking, no doubt. But I think your enjoyment of your car's current ride quality, handling and performance would suffer. I'd say max diameter you should consider would be 19", and even then your rear aspect ratio would have to be tiny to keep anywhere near stock revs-per-mile, not to mention the loss of bump compliance and increased risk of wheel damage.
So, the 20's would be great looks-wise, but car would be less fun/usable. Only you can make the call.
I have 19inch wheels on my 99/996 and they rub when turning sharply, like in a u turn mostly. The fenders have been rolled, I try not to make to many sharp turns.
20" ??????
Why?
996 were design to mount 18". I don't understand it
19" rims are aesthetical improvement, though you know you'll lose best compromise. Ok with this, but 20"??
Any 996 could find a good set up with 20" rims.
It's starting to sound like I should stick with the tires/wheels I have.
I definately don't want to rub.
And California roads are bad enough without sacraficing ride quality.
And I hadn't really thought about damage potential.
Right now I rip snort everywhere, all the time, without regard to turning, bumps, pot-holes or loss of traction in 1G corners. I like the look, but I think I can talk myself out of flash over substance.
Thanks :-)
Personally, I think RG5s look pretty nice in 18s too, so you could have flash
and
substance . . .
PS: I was just driving around LA, and appreciate your comment about road quality! Wow, considering you don't have cold weather like we do, your roads really take a beating!
I just couldn't shake the impression that 18" wheels look "olde".
But everyone agreed that 20" was too much.
So I'm going with the 19" Champion RG5 Monolites.
Anyone interrested in slightly used GT2 wheels with almost new rubber?
The wheels will only fit widebodies, and even then they require rolled fender lips and fender liner mods.
But 335/30/18's are very nice for track and autocross.
Sorry, after washing the car I've decided it's perfect just the way it is.
The guys at Champion will probably be a little pissed off, but I can't part with the GT2 wheels. And paying to jump from 245 front / 335 rear to 235 front 315 rear doesn't make much sense for a track car. The light wheels 10 pounds each in front, 13 pounds each in back, would be nice, but with a 500 horsepower, supercharged screamer, I think traction trumps unsprung weight.
Sorry again, just read the last post. Wanted to say "lighter"
The stock GT2 wheels are 29 pounds front, 33 pounds rear.
The Champion RG5 Monolites are 19 pounds front, 20 pounds rear.
