I do consider new wheels cosmetic, but for that my wants are two-fold - get a better looking wheel for the street, and use the factory wheels for DOT-R track tires.....so I'd say I'm looking for performance there.

Since my car's an '01 with a 3.4 liter, does it make any difference to use the later one with the bigger bypass pipes?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, I've done H&R coilovers, clear corners, and bumper plugs. As far as I'm concerned, I'm through with cosmetic stuff, and I don't plan any interior mods. Tell me which mod should be next, and if you have a performance mod that's not on my list, post up! Scott Here's the car is it is today:

POST 3Original post

Short-shift. Hands down my friend. You will love it!! Chad

POST 5Original post

1. B&M ssk - inexpensive mod, surprised you haven't done it already 2. do you consider new wheels cosmetic? you can do the BBS or (like me) champion monolites 18~19lbs for performance AND cosmetics . have your cake and eat it too. 3. GIAC flash and evo v-flow intake! 4. even though you are done with the cosmetics, you would get better cooling, aerodynamics, and looks with a new bumper (gt3,Ruf,turbo look...) 5. even though you aren't planning interior mods, gt3 seat(s) would be nice

POST 7Original post

All great suggestions.... I voted for PSE, short shift kit would be good too...... One cosmetic suggestion: painted bumperettes would look great on your car.

POST 8Original post

P S E WAIT TILL YOU GO THROUGH TUNNELS ! THE WAY IT SOUNDS GOOD LUCK SHANE

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

OK, got a line on PSE and I'm doing some web research on B&M SSK's. There's a seller on ebay with this description: EVO billet aluminum shift linkage? He makes it sound like that's an option you can add to the B&M. It's a whole different SSK, isn't it? NEVERMIND...I was only partially through a Rennlist search for this and found it in an old thread. Screw that aluminum shift linkage....I don't want to mess with the cable ends....

POST 10Original post

i held on to the champion 18s for the track when i bought the sportec 19s for BLING. BTW, tirerack has smokin deals on the dunlop ssr r compound tires. some of the trackies on the racing forum have stockpiled them. i just bought one set for the champions and may buy another set cause they're so cheap! not as good as MPSCs reportedly but at half the price i won't feel bad driving to the track on them rather than trailer-ing them.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is the correct PSE, yes? Seller lists P/N's 996 111 984 00 & 996 111 985 00

POST 12Original post

B&M first. Best mod for the money. Forget PSE. Get muffler bypass pipes. Life will never be the same. Then GT3 seats.

POST 13Original post

Not sure. Porsche parts database is showing 996.111.984/985.03 for cars up to MY '03 and 996.111.984/985.04 for cars from MY '04.

POST 14Original post

i think that's the old 3.4L version. it has the skinny bypass pipes. this is what you want...

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since my car's an '01 with a 3.4 liter, does it make any difference to use the later one with the bigger bypass pipes?

POST 16Original post

i've read from others (DJ996 or was it c70pete) that the 3.4L doesn't sound as good as the 3.6L version. the 3.6L is throatier and louder.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, due to my Rennlist buddies' input, guess what Mr. UPS man brought today, just in time for the weekend project: I'm still looking for that smokin' deal on the PSE, I let that other auction go without bidding......... I'm surprised to see that there were some late votes that made the 5-Spokes tie for the poll lead! I think I'm going to go with another wheel, though, maybe a BBS LM. I think it would look good with Seal Grey.

POST 18Original post

SLR - If you received the "old" instructions with your B&M shifter, they will instruct you to disconnect the cables from the cable ends. DO NOT do this ! There are two important things that will make the process easier: 1. DO mark the cables, (this is a "just in case..." step) 2. DON'T disconnect the cables from the cable ends. Instead of disconnecting the cables from the cable ends, you will just pull or pry the cable ends off of the shifter. There are updated B&M instructions on their web site that eliminates the "disconnect the cables from the cable ends" step. See link below: http://www.bmracing.com/media/products/pdf/67.pdf Also, be careful when you pull the shifter **** off of the shifter. It will take a lot of force, and it will come loose suddenly. You can smack yourself pretty well if this happens. I took two screwdrivers and placed on each side of the shifter shaft. The screwdrivers face in opposite directions so you can hold the handle of one screwdriver and the shaft of the other screwdriver in each hand. Sitting in the driver's seat, place your left forearm on your right knee. With your palm facing up, grab the left side of the two screwdrivers (already on each side of the shifter shaft) with your left hand and the right side of the screwdrivers with your right hand (also facing palm up). You can now use your left knee as a fulcrum and pry the **** off. It may go flying straight up, but you won't knock your teeth out. You will love the short shifter! BTW, your car looks GOOD!

POST 19Original post

p.s. you won't have to pry the **** off if there is a set screw. Lift the boot and see if a set screw is on the front under the boot facing the radio. If you have no set screw than pry away. I found it easier to remove the **** after the shifter was out of the car FWIW
