From what I have heard on this board, using the H&R springs with the stock (not 030 Sport package) shocks and sway bars should do just what I'm looking for.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 04 C2 and I would like to install a set of H&R springs myself. I have done similar swaps on BMW's and I know the concerns with compressing the springs etc. Are any special tools required or anything else I should know. I enjoy working on my own car, in fact one of my first real jobs (25+ years ago) was as a VW "technician"....Thanks for your advice. I truly enjoy this forum and have benefited from advice many times in the last month....... I know I will need an alignment when I am finished with the work...

POST 2Original post

Find a way to get the car lifted in the air and be able to take all the wheels off at once Guess your going with the H&Rs now... Looks like that Christmas money is going a long way

POST 3Original post

Maybe a little off topic , but do you have the 030 Sport package? If not what shocks are you going to do??

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello kilrgt, I purchased the same spring that you bought from vividracing. You beat me to them by minutes...lol. I did not want to stiffen my ride any more then it is for the street right now, I just wanted to close the wheel gap. From what I have heard on this board, using the H&R springs with the stock (not 030 Sport package) shocks and sway bars should do just what I'm looking for.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Apex, just remember who is going to be under the car with me......

POST 6Original post

Sockets, spring compressor, breaker bar. You can rent the spring compressor at a Checker or AutoZone. Start corner by corner. With the front - Remove the wheel. You have to loosen the bolts that hold the bottom of the strut to the brake knuckle or hub assembly. Also remove any bracket that holds the brake line to the shock. Once these are loose, you can loosen the top strut bolts. Remove the bottom all the way, the remove the top and drop the shock out. To get the spring off, if there is a ton of tension, you will need spring compressors, if not dont bother. But loosen the nut that is on the strut top to the shock body. Once this is loose you will be able to remove the strut top then the spring will slide out. The new springs will seat in the same and then retighten strut top. When putting the strut back on the car, make sure to NOT over torque the top strut bolts, they will snap. When I put my JIC FLTA2 coilovers on the C2 this week, I will have pics posted so it makes better sense, so stay tuned.... Thanks Dan

POST 7Original post

Sounds very similar to doing a spring install on a Subaru.... Shouldn't pose any huge problems, though the bolts that hold the bottom of the strut to the hub assembly are torqued to insane numbers....

POST 8Original post

Yea I dont mind the ride of car , i think I'll go your way and just install the springs...And sorry I got them befor you!

POST 9Original post

Big6dad, what swaybars are you going to install? I have the H&R springs awaiting to be install too at the moment, but haven't decided on the sway bars yet. Post some pics when you are done!!

POST 10Original post

Big 6 Dad, you don't need a spring compressor to install the springs as the shorten height does not need to be compressed to get them on. It may help removal of the old ones as they have tension when unbolting the top of the strut. Check out my instuctions: https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=18692

POST 11Original post

Jetskied- Damn, thats good stuff there. Thanks for the instructions.

POST 12Original post

The install is pretty straight forward. Follow the directions posted above, and you should be fine. My brother and I were able to complete the job in ~4 hours. However, I found the spring compressor to be a great help, especially in the rear. The compressor was helpful in removal, and installation of the assembly. It may not be a must have, but it made things A LOT easier to align back there. The fronts were pretty easy, except for breaking loose the top hex nut... a breaker bar is a must! Take your time, and you'll be fine... this was my first removal/install on any car... use the spring compressor for safety sake, and piece of mind...

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all for your insight...I look forward to the project, right Apex?

POST 14Original post

Just as an FYI .. In stead of messing with this, Why not have a reputable shop install them Try Bergen Imports In Cliffside park NJ. [phone removed] . Good guy, Loves Porsche;s I have known him over 16 years.......... And he does things the right way....... Ask for Harry tell'm I sent you he will help you out.

POST 15Original post

Most shops in Chicago wanted $700+ to do this install. In retrospect, I am very glad I took the time to save some money, and learn more about my car. However, make sure you take the car to a reputable shop for an alignment.

POST 16Original post

VOVE Our shop is $75/hour for a 3-4 hour job. Fun to do with buddies, but if you do not have the right tools then go to a shop. I think Dave has got it covered! I am going to run H&R sway bars too with the new Agency Power sway links. Hit me up on PM and I will get you more info on the setup.

POST 17Original post

There are alot of good guys out there, and there are lots of bad ones too. See mechanics are paid by flag time and many of them hurry through your cars so they can get 16hours of pay for 8 hours. I have many friends who are mechanics and I can tell you they are no better than I am at auto repairs(some are even worse). The key is how mechanically inclined are you. Some guys could fix anything even though they are an accountant. Then there are some guys who are an accountant and can't even fix their pencil sharpener. Know how inclined are you before taking on a project.
