Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys I got a Porter Cable orbital polisher for Christmas, I'm stoked!! Anybody have any helpful tips on using it with P21S and other polishes/waxes? Thanks.

POST 2Original post

I have one... good machine. Just put the polish on the pad then put the pad on the car before starting the machine... otherwise it's polish everywhere!!

POST 3Original post

Doug - I have had the Porter Cable Orbital for over four years. I highly recommend you look at www.griotsgarage.com for the special pads (polish & wax) as well as the bonnets (polish & wax) they suggest. Improper technique with an orbital will cause you problems. Order "The Detailer's Handbook" item # 10212 from Griot's and you will have some real help. I use their product exclusively and will put my finish (cayenne S & 996) up against any other product. I can do a full clay & wax on the 996 in 2 hours using Griot's & the Porter Cable. Have FUN !

Go to autopia.org. They have everything you ever wanted to know about orbital polishers and auto detailing you could ever want to know.

POST 5Original post

If you've never used a buffer or orbital polisher before, you'll have to get the hang of it. Hold it steady and let it ride on the surface. Just apply a little wrist pressure, dont apply your weight. Make it go in the direction you want. I always start by dampening the pads with water. If you start with a dry pad, the material and waxes will have to saturate the pad first before there is enough to start going on the car. Thats just wasting the materials. The damp pad will hold the waxes out and they wont saturate the pad. You always want to keep the materials moist while you are applying them. When they start getting dry the pad will start sticking and slowing down. Then you are buffing dry materials and possibly start scratching the finish with the pad. And you are also starting to buff off the material you have just applied before it has dried. Sometimes I have to sprinkle the pad with water as I am trying to apply the materials. When you finish the panel, try to have a good even pattern and usually a front to back direction as opposed to side to side.

POST 6Original post

The PC rocks had one now for about 4 years. P21 polish works well. For p21 wax its so easy to put on and take off by hand I don't use the machine. However, for polishes, compounds, swirl mark removers etc, the pc is the way to go. Autopia has some great info on it in their forums. I would check it out. As for griot's good stuff, except IMHO, that clay in the middle of the pad thing is kind of silly and potentially dangerous to the paint. The PC is very safe compared to a rotary really impossible to mess your paint up. Happy waxing.

I purchased one about three years ago. I used it once and put it back in the box. Didn't care for it. All I can say is that when you use it...use VERY LIGHT PRESSURE! Jim
