Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Mine is only about 10 feet, maybe 20 tops on a good day. I've had other cars that are good for a couple hundred feet easily. My battery just running low, and I need to get off my *** and replace it, or they all pretty low range? On a similar note, I've failed to lock my car when leaving several times, I assume due to weak signal and me not paying attention. There any way to enable a chirp or anything like some other alarm systems have so you can get audio feedback as to whether or not you locked your car (nice for locating your "missing" small car hidden behind a large SUV in a parking lot too). POST 2Original post

There was a thread not too long ago about how to increase the range.

POST 3Original post

This subject brought up many occasions. Get on Renntech for instruction.

POST 4Original post

Here is a link to a recent thread about increasinf the range of your remote. Check out the link in post #4 of the thread, it will give you DIY instructions with pics. BTW, the DYI is NOT as complicated as it looks. The whole process takes only 20 to 30 minutes. IF you have any questions, post them here. Increasing Range of the Remote There is not a way to add an audible chirp when locking the car. The only time you will hear a chirp is if something is unlatched, which could be a door, the bonnet, the rear deck lid, the glove box or the center storage lid.

Tim, If you do the search for him he learns nothing. Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime! j/k I'm just too lazy. Kuwait... a soldier?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ya, my bad. I've pawed through 30+ pages of archives over the past few weeks, and assumed I would have noticed stuff about remote range and didn't bother searching. No, I'm an Army contractor running IT (computer) stuff for them. I spent the last year in Afghanistan, then transfered over here to Kuwait.

I used to think the range was too short, too, until one day I asked myself why it mattered that I couldn't unlock the car from more than twenty feet away. A much bigger concern for me is that with there only being one button on my MY99's remote, it's hard to tell if you locked the car or unlocked it.

My 2004 key fob has two buttons on it, one for lock/unlock and the other for the bonnet release. In my car, if I unlock it and don't open a door when it is unlocked, it will automatically lock in approximately 60 to 75 seconds. Check to see if your car does the same thing. If it locks itself, then you can rest a little easier. Also, when I unlock it, the parking lights flash once. When I lock my car the lights flash twice. It is easy to remember if you think one flash (unlock) = "Hello" (one flash one word) and two flashes (locked) = "Good Bye" (two flashes two words).

My buddy has a non-P with one of those long range remotes. We were in a bar and he had his keys in his pocket. He must've grabbed for some money in his or maybe bent over to pick something up, but a little while later someone came in and mentioned that a car in the parking lot had the trunk wide open. Guess whose keys had a trunk release button. It was about 50 feet away, and through a wall. Won't happen with my car -td
