Radiators - Unless they were kept in tip top shape and regularly cleaned...probably will need to be addressed.

It sounds like the car may have simply been registered to an owner that changed loans.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
26 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I found this car locally,
http://www.machens.com/pre-owned-inv...53S686430.aspx
They owner before put the battery in backwards so the radio does not work and a few other small things. I have not done a PPI yet but I will before i buy. I was thinking 45 was a good price not 50 for sure. I have a 03 C4s atm.
Probably a good question for the 996 Turbo forum.
With that in mind...
6 previous owners - that is a lot of opportunities to defer maintenance
What brought the car to Missouri from Hawaii?
Maintenance records? (critical on a 996TT)
Price seems somewhat high in the current market. But the relatively low miles may be part of that. The Car Gurus fair market price on a similar mileage 03 in Illinois is $54.5k, so perhaps the asking price is not crazy high. CG prices are good for comparison of current dealer asking prices. I wouldn't pay that much.
Here is that listing from the dealer.

Good luck!
I wouldn't be afraid of the 6 owners thing in this case, though I would investigate further. It sounds like the car may have simply been registered to an owner that changed loans. Also, it looks like the dealer took it and titled it, then sold it again, so that's an exchange of owners according to DMV. And as for moving from HI to MO (or anywhere off island), HI is a funky place for cars. There's a fairly big gap between the haves and have nots. The have nots cannot afford it, even used. The haves that can afford a $50k car (more at the time, probably), will buy new. Do your homework, but it looks nice.
The PO put the battery in backwards? The car is at a Porsche dealer and they didn't fix the radio to work? PPI for sure on that. The price looks ok from 45-50K for that car.
If you have time I would take a good look around and learn the options. X50 is a great option in the 996TT if you can find one with it. Also check the tires. They don't last long (especially the rears) so if a dealer is selling a car at a premium they should replace them if they are almost worn.
ok got a little more info on the TT...looks like the same owner from HI and IN and then MO...he was a dr so he moved around a lot. the rear spoiler does not work...car is at a local BMW shop...no P car dealer here in CO MO. the radio lights up and all, just no sound. Tires are 50 percent. they have it listed at 43 k on the e bay listing
There are plenty of lower mile 996TT's at the +/-$50K price point.... Be a bit patient and you should be able to find exactly what you want.
Much harder to find a decent $35K or $40K 996TT unless you are willing to settle for high miles or a car with issues.
I haven't researched TT's as much as I have the narrow body cars, but I can tell you that the price seems high (I've seen equally low mileage cars in the high $30's)
I'd be all over your car in a second if only it had 3 pedals instead of 2!
Will
Cannon, your car is beautiful and it looks like it has been well maintained from the pics but it also has 60k miles more on its odo than the car the OP is considering...and it
is
missing a pedal.

Totally understand and agree! I got the Tippy because I knew I would be driving it around "town" for work - that means a lot of rush hour traffic and it's difficult to drive, change gears, talk and drink coffee - all mandatory in the morning...so I went for the Tippy.
As far as the miles go - I feel (and I may be wrong) that the price reflects that. Given the rare color, upgrades and X50 it would be worth considerably more if the mileage was lower. I know it may not be the car for you - but if you think I am asking too much - I would appreciate the feedback.
I can assure you, that this girl has no shortcomings compared to a manual. She's as fast as any other turbo out there and very capable with the Moton's. Yes, you do miss the visceral experience of changing the gears...but she can also handle a helluva lot more hp without needing a better clutch.
As far as 996 turbo's go - I'll tell you what you need to see has been addressed, because its not the miles on these cars - its the age.
Suspension - Especially the rears. Springs are getting tired, even if the car was sitting there. These are heavy girls. So if the stock suspension is on there - get ready to replace springs at a minimum or go through tires faster.
Rubber bits - especially in the engine bay. Expansion tanks & caps, Intercooler hoses, belts, Diverter Valves, stuff like that will need to be replaced.
Radiators - Unless they were kept in tip top shape and regularly cleaned...probably will need to be addressed. Again, especially the hoses.
Rubber trim pieces - various rubber parts that may have started drying out.
CV Joints - age and wear & Tear item.
Seals - Age related item.
Rear Spoiler Hydraulics - A horrible, horrible design. Heavy and will leak.
And yes - ALL of these have been replaced on my car.
The engine on these cars is solid - I would argue one of the best ever built. Not suffering from the 996 IMS/RMS issues. With regular maintenance and good oil - these cars will be around for a VERY long time.
If any of you change your mind - I
will
negotiate. :-)
I did not mean to suggest that you were asking too much for your car. I am sorry if my comment came across in that way. I was simply suggesting that the price difference you pointed out between your car and the one the OP was originally asking about was justified based on the differences in each car's mileage. So, I completely agree with you!
No doubt. Today's automatics (especially today's dual clutch-type transmissions) are extremely efficient and, in some cases, even faster than the manuals. My preference for the manual is more about the experience. If I was looking for a car to race, I'd be better off with the computer shifting but I bought my Porsche for the experience as a daily driver...and maybe an occasional autocross or track event...maybe. I don't question or criticize anyone's decision to buy an automatic over a manual. It's a personal decision just like the color of the exterior.
FWIW, I'm thinking about replacing my other daily driver (my S60R, which has a 6 speed manual) with a car with a dual clutch transmission. It may seem silly but it's a very difficult change for me. I may have the right car to get me over that hurdle...we'll see.
Good luck with your sale...Tippy is truly a beautiful car.

P.S. What are you planning on replacing the TT with?
No offense taken. I was generally asking the members here what they thought of the price.
Thank you, she will be missed.
A dedicated track/race car (924S in GTR motif), a new truck and maybe a trailer. Not entirely sure yet about the truck & trailer.
Eric, Why is your member name Sue ?
Low-$40s is what I would pay for that car. +1 getting PPI done. Expect to pay $200-$300 (don't skimp). If you really want to spend $50k, I think you can get more for your money than this one. Your Rennlist brothers (and sisters) will help you buy long distance (with recommendations for good PPI). Many buy sight-unseen if PPI checks out (and ship car home). Alternatively, you can get it checked out and fly in to do the deal and then drive home.
Sue Esponte is a play on the Latin phrase "sua sponte" meaning "of one's own accord." The screen name came about from an old/bad joke with some close friends and actually dates back to the late '90s. It stuck around for a while (read: too long) and just became a (bad) habit. At this point it (she) just won't go away. And, no, there is no Sue.
Good luck with the race/track car project! I've had a great time trying out autocross (with my Volvo) and would love to get my Porsche on a track some day...even if just for the driver's education. I really wish I had more time for something like that.
