Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Its a Coupe and the targa roof is now installed from beneath instead of placed on top of frame..so I'm told...great fun to drive..I track mine all the time, no issues with flex or creaking.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The topic describes itself... I'm a bit curious as there seems to be some mixed opinion about this i was always under the impression that the 996 targa was based upon the cabriolet chassis, hence, making it a slightly stiffer (mabye) cabriolet with metal roof rails and a huge glass window for a roof. however there seems to be some disagreement namely from targa owners any 'experts' care to dispel the fog surrounding this issue? either way this isnt intended as a bashing of the targa, its a magnificent car, loving the ingenuity of the roof, however, I would just like some closure on this debate. thx gg

POST 2Original post

I believe the current targa is based on the coupe. The older model might have been based on the cab.

POST 4Original post

As Per (Franklin - Porsche Internal Design Team) Informs me that the 996 Tara's are based on the 996 Coupe design, not Cab - Now we have it from the horses mouth.... Thus far, 10K miles on my Tara and not as much as a peep from the roof or frame - solid as my morning erection...

POST 5Original post

The 996 Targa being a coupe based car is also described in Porsche's literature. I'm not sure about the 993, but all previous Targas were cab based.
