Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Others will say that they hook up the computer and check for faults.
Leading evidence: 'Check faults' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check faults' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion · Original poster
I had the PSE installed at a small shop, the Fabspeed Airbox installed by myself, and the oil changes done locally at 2-3k miles w/ Mobil 1 15w50.

and I must say that there in nothing wrong with changing the oil at 2-5K intervals, it is just not necessary, and a waste of money and oil.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So, I'm at about 25,100 miles...on my '02 C4S...after having bought the car 5.5 months ago with about 17k on it...
I'm rapidly approaching the 30k service now that it is summer and I'll be driving the C4S a lot.
Quite luckily, I still haven't had to darken the doorways of a Porsche dealer yet (knock on wood) for service...which is 80 miles away.
I had the PSE installed at a small shop, the Fabspeed Airbox installed by myself, and the oil changes done locally at 2-3k miles w/ Mobil 1 15w50.
So far, I've had no dark spots on the floor of the garage (knock on wood again).
But anyway, on to the 30k service. I did a search and didn't find much info at all.
What does the service entail?
Roughly how much should I anticipate paying?
Will they put the 5w30 or whatever it is Porsche uses when they do the oil change?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance...
I'm just now calling the 3 dealers that are somewhat within range...
So far:
AutoPlace (Buffalo, 100 miles): $787
Holtz (Rochester, 75 miles): $613
Feduke (Binghamton, 95 miles): $500: +/-...price depending on parts replacement on "as-needed" basis
Check this website - it spells out what is involved with a minor (15K, 45K, etc.) and a major (30K, 60K, 90K) service visit.
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...ode=maint_menu
If done at a Porsche dealer a minor service will be >$500 and my 30K cost >$1000 w/a couple of extras and they used Mobile 1.
I inquired about a PCA discount at each and they said parts only, not service.
We didn't get into the specifics of how much of the 30k service fee is parts vs. labor, but I'd imagine they'd follow what they said previously.
I did the 30k service myself. I also did all of the other service at the same time including plugs and changing the tranny fluid. It's incredibly simple except for the fuel filter which was a pain. You might also want to replace the serpentine while your at it. My actually shredded about 2k after my 30k service etc. It is also very easy but requires I believe a 26mm socket to move the iddler arm. All the tutorials are on Loren's website/forum on renntean
The meat of the "official" 30K service is:
Change the oil and filter
Change the air filter
Change the pollen filter
No plugs, no fuel filter, no other fluids. and I must say that there in nothing wrong with changing the oil at 2-5K intervals, it is just not necessary, and a waste of money and oil. Thanks to the need to be in compliance with today's emissions rules, these cars are very robust in their maintenance requirements.
If you are comfortable in changing your own oil, then save the $500 and do it yourself. The parts including oil will cost you about $85.
I am amazed that folks shell out $500 up to $1000 for $85 worth of parts and an hour of someone's time.
Now some will say that the tech "checks" all sorts of things. Well, you can do the same "checks" and still save money. The "checks" are in your maintenance manual.
Others will say that they hook up the computer and check for faults. Well if the CEL is not on, then there are no major faults. And if the CEL is on, for your car it is covered under warranty.
All in all, if you have money to burn, by all means give it to your dealer, but if you would rather use that cash on something else, then do the 30K yourself.
