I'm just susprised because the G96/00 'box that was used with the 3.4l engine was deemed insufficient even for the increased torque of the 3.6l engine, and they upgraded it by putting in an extra bearing on the input shaft and using higher grade steel.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

40 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wow! the power in this car is just so smooooooooth. it's not as violent as a TT when it's power comes on, but that's probably cause there is zero lag with the SC and power is so linear. this is the power all 996s should come with :-) it seems better matched with the car's handling capabilities. there is ZERO driveability issues with the lightweight flywheel. iow, when you're driving it normally (like everyone else on the road), you'd never know this wasn't a stock 996 with a stock clutch and flywheel. the only thing to mention is that at idle if you don't have the clutch fully depressed, it does rattle. that said, SC whine is nearly non-existent. it's much quieter than the turbo's whistle. the jury is still out on whether the new PSS9s produce a better handling car than did the H&Rs. the PSS9s feel a little strange - the same way the Ruf PSS9s felt on a friend's 996 TT. they feel a bit soft (i'm not sure what setting they're on though). from a rolling start (before it started to drizzle) either in first or second gear, the car lights up the rears! after it started to drizzle, i had to call it quits because all it wanted to do was spin the tires in any gear when the peddle was mashed :-)

How about some Pics of the engine bay? I've seen ads for TPC superchargers but I believe you used someone else, how did you decide?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

TPC is good at advertising a product they don't have. They've been marketing that SC for over a year now and it's always due out "in 30 days". I went with Todd @ Evo ( www.evoms.com ) who has a reputation around here for doing good work and treating people right. pics can be found here since 986 host doesn't work with rennlist: pics of engine bay

POST 4Original post

rattle sounds when the clutch is not engaged are not normal, it usually spells problems with the throughout bearings in the pressure plate i.e imminent clutch failure

POST 5Original post

Is your car a 3.4L or 3.6L ? I can't find any information on the evoms web site ? Is yours a pre-release kit ? ThunderC4S

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks fahren. todd even said it sounded like a throw out bearing was going out but that is the normal sound. the clutch and flywheel are brand new. many on several boards have commented about this sound on lightweight flywheels. thunder, my car is a 3.4 and is one of the first 10 pre-released kits.

POST 7Original post

You're right about TPC advertising but taking forever. I spoke to the guy over there and he mentioned it has been made since last year, but honestly the problem he's having is getting a crew to get the production systems made because they're busy with other projects...i.e. racing. One question, why didn't you go with turbo? is there any disadvantage besides cost? I am thinking of getting a ttp turbo because they claim it is similar to a stock turbo in performance and reliability and it seems more of a R&D' system. I'm just waiting for my AMD options to mature by Jan.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"One question, why didn't you go with turbo? is there any disadvantage besides cost?" the reasons for SC over TT for me are: 1) no lag in the SC - lotsa lag in the turbo 2) requires goofy rear spoiler modification to facilitate the intercooler 3) 2X the cost "because they claim it is similar to a stock turbo in performance and reliability and it seems more of a R&D' system." i don't know that they've got more R&D in the twin turbo upgrade (which evo also provides). further, in the 3k lb C2, the SC will also provide similar performance to the tt. my cab is 3300 lbs. fwiw, the GT3 provides similar acceleration to the TT with C2 weight and my car's dyno shows the car to ALWAYS have more hp and torque than a GT3 from the time the ignition is turned on all the way to redline. so, a C2 (GT3 weight) with more than GT3 power will outpeform a TT in a straight line.

How many miles on your car when it was installed? If compression is good is ther any considerations to look out for with a higher milage car? Mine has 45K.

POST 13Original post

Ben, I have a new 03 C2 with 4600mi on it, and have thought about a SC. But, I have no idea if there's extra attention required after the upgrade? Any adjustments regarding how you drive, expected repairs, increased engine stress etc being it's aftermkt? My 03 is still under warranty.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

it's the same as it was before as relates maintenance, driveability, etc. my car is still in warranty too (another year), but i have no delusions about porsche's reaction to any supercharger related failures.

POST 15Original post

Hey Ben, They might void your entire warranty so if anything goes, like a seat warmer, they might not honor it. Not definate though. Bobby

POST 16Original post

Untrue, might want to look up the ("something" moss act)

POST 18Original post

Hi, does your car have the original gearbox? I'm just susprised because the G96/00 'box that was used with the 3.4l engine was deemed insufficient even for the increased torque of the 3.6l engine, and they upgraded it by putting in an extra bearing on the input shaft and using higher grade steel. Even the upgraded 'box is considered insufficient for the TT, which uses a G50-based box. Cheers, Uwe

POST 20Original post

Hello, I got my 996 about a month ago, and considering a supercharger, did you have to perform any internal mods?, and what is the max out psi of the sc you are using? do you still have the stock exhaust? Regards Roberto ,

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 23Original post

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

using the same 17.3% hp and 15.5% lb drivetrain loss figures from stock on this dyno, it's 440 hp and 345 lb. no, i've not done any 0-X testing and probably won't. evo, the manufacturer, is actually getting 430 AT THE WHEELS out of their 3.6L version - and that's without X51 even.

POST 26Original post

Parkman, Go to the 6speedonline.com site. A few of us are in the proccess of being part of a group buy. 03 C4S is putting the deal together. BTW, today would've been a good day for another DC photo shoot. Maybe one of these upcoming weekends the weather will cooperate. Regards

POST 27Original post

Parkman, Since your car is a '99 C2, I don't believe there is an Evoms SC available for it. I'm in the same boat -- same model, same year. I believe you need e-gas to use their kit. I'm totally bummed about it. =Carlos=

POST 28Original post

contact me for group buy. want one for my car. btw i have seen a 3.6 996 with a TPC SC blow it's engine. what a sad sight. but may have been installed or tuned incorrectedly from what i heard. i agree, Todd with evo has a good reputation of putting out good products. yo Todd, can i get one for half price now.

POST 29Original post

there are 99's with e-gas, my friend has one. either way, my other friend here finished completing two projects on his 996. I will take pictures of the kits and post them for you to see on this board. the first kit was made with a supercharger without aftercooler. the second kit was made using 2 kkk turbos. the supercharged one dynoed in at 380rwhp but it was not completely tuned and thus the hp will probably go up. the second kit has not been dynoed yet but sounds pretty vicious on the road. i'll also ask him for the dyno charts when he dynoes the second car to scan in so you can see the difference. alternatively carlos since you also live in mclean, you can just come see it. i don't think he's selling them though but i'm sure he'd tell you where to get the parts made and where to get things done. When he was making his kit he made three of everything. three brackets, three pulleys, three blowers, etc... one for me, and one each for my friends. the cost was not bad at all. either way, if you're interested in coming to see it (I haven't put one on my car yet, but his is on right now) i'll give him a call and see if you can go over to check out the twin turbo kit and the supercharger kits. he's also on this message board but doesn't come on much. he previously made a supercharger kit for his viper gts and then didn't like it so he got twin turbo's placed on it. 897 rwhp. he wasn't completely satisfied with it (as any of you fellow viper owners know) and ended up selling it. I think he still has the twin turbo kit sitting in his garage though so if any of you viper owners are interested... This guy is the master at tuning his own cars... you have to see his collection. BTW: the sc'ed one runs off a custom piggyback ecu system that adjusts the air/fuel ratio and timing. Since it's a piggy back system it's basically plug and play and you can just fool around with it on your laptop. It's not like the motronics or haltechs where you have to do this and that to get everything right. he also has larger injectors in there.

POST 30Original post

That sounds pretty interesting! I would like very much to see one, although not now, it's too damn cold. But maybe when things warm up we can get together. After I made that last post (which was a long time ago) I emailed Todd, and he told me they are working on a version for non e-gas 996's like mine, and that it will be ready next month. So I am interested in following up on that one, too. =Carlos=

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"btw i have seen a 3.6 996 with a TPC SC blow it's engine." have seen several boxsters fry with TPC's too.

POST 33Original post

I took a trip down to see Ben's car today... I just want to thank Ben for meeting me and taking me for a "little" drive. MAN... I'm still smiling from the experience!!!!!!! Ben took me on the same road that he posted his rpm's on, I'm just speachless. never gone so fast in so liitle time AND gone into turns that fast! Geez, driving home, my car felt SOOO slow! Oh well, I'm in the process of budgeting for this. His car really screams. Thanks again Ben! BTW, how do you put the little pictures of your car by your name?

POST 34Original post

the picture next to your name is commonly called a "signature." you can edit it and put a picture in it by clicking on my profile at the top right hand menu bar of this screen. then click on edit profile and you can change your signature there using either vb or html script.

POST 35Original post

Ben, How ya liking the car? It still runnin ok?

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

it's running great and is a ton of fun (still makes my eyeballs large), but the system never got C.A.R.B. certified. so, when i start marketing the car for sale (making room for the CGT) in a couple weeks, it'll only be marketable to buyers in 49 of the 50 states with the largest of the 50 (CA) being off limits. what sucks is that i've had the system for 7 months and it's still not C.A.R.B. approved!

POST 38Original post

Ben, Thanks for sharing the info. I have just bought my 996 and have been emailing a bit with Todd at EVOMS to persue getting a SC kit. I had just found out about TPC's kit and decided to check that out before making my decision. My reaction after reading your thread and a few others is that the EVOMS SC is the one to get. My one dilemma is having it installed, but I'll figure that one out. I'm in a remote are of Hawaii and there is literally one German auto garage (that does fine work), but I'm going to have to talk them into it.

POST 39Original post

i've been trying to get more info myself on this kit. unfortunately responses to my emails to EVOMS have been few and far between.
