I had my 996 (and previous other cars) fitted with the "invici-shield" or 3m plastic coating.

The plastic comes in sections and can be replaced as they become "used" over time.

I have used the OEM Porsche bras and found them to fit well and was pleased with them.

Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

OK, now how about this: Did you ever use a material bra in the rain...once the bra was wet, it was imperative to remove the bra, otherwise you risk problems with the "bra bleed." Also, you cannot put on a wet bra...same problem.

I used the material bras for several of my cars and didn't care for them because the side metal clamps can come lose and if that happens you will likely get a "machine gun" effect on the fenders from having these clamps slapping the fender if they should come away from the fenders.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Howdy,
I have an 02 Cab and bought the "Porsche" bra with it. I went to put it on today and am unimpressed so far. It does not fit well over the headlights. When driving, it blows up to pockets between the hood and the headlight.
Is this normal? Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Roy
Not all bras are created equal. The best ones for Porsches on the market today are those made by
Speed Lingerie
. While they are not the cheapest, they certainly fit and protect the best, and they come in the color of your car. I have had one for over 3 years on my 996 with absolutely no problems. The bra stays flat at speed (I've driven the car at 150+ with the bra on with no "fluffing"), and I've had none of the chafing damage that some bras can give. Over the years, it is starting to show some wear from all of the rocks, parking lot battles etc. that it has taken the bullet for, but because of it, the nose of the car is still pristine. I highly recommend them.
I have a Porsche bra for my 2003 996 and experience the same dissatisfaction with it having wind pockets near the headlights. None the less, it works for keeping the stone chips off the car. I looked at the speed lingerie bra but $550 is sure pricey. Geeting one for free would be great like "Orient" but I'm not that lucky.

The plastic film will not give the same protection as the material bra, but it does help and the plastic doesn't seem to have any negative effect on the paint in my experience. But you should check this point out for yourself. The plastic comes in sections and can be replaced as they become "used" over time.
Good point to look for. The better bras do not use any metal fasteners. The Speed Lingerie bras have semi-soft urethane attachment strips on the side and bottom trailing edges of the bra. They also have an small downforce spoiler tab along the trailing edge of hood cover which prevents any billowing or flutter.
I bought a speed lingerie bra this summer. They didn't have any GT3 bras in stock so I had to wait a few weeks for them to make it. Great fit top & bottom but the sides were ridiculous - i could fit my fist where the turn lenses were!
After several phone calls/emails they agreed to correct it and so I made the marks where the seems should be pulled together for a tight fit. Each week I'd check on the status and get - "We're working on it." After 5-6 weeks (keep in mind it took 3 wks to make the entire thing), I emailed them and told them to forget it and issue me a refund. Did not receive one single reply. Had to get Amex on the case to get my money back
The non metal clamps v. metal clamps are certainly a better choice. OK, now how about this: Did you ever use a material bra in the rain...once the bra was wet, it was imperative to remove the bra, otherwise you risk problems with the "bra bleed." Also, you cannot put on a wet bra...same problem. So, have they figured out how to elimanate this problem? It would be a big improvement. I used to get "caught" in the rain, had to stop the car, remove the bra, stow it and hang it out to thoroughy dry...not the end of the world for sure, but a pain .
The wet bra issue is certainly a short coming of this type of protection. The issue is not so much the bra getting wet, but rather the moisture trapped in the bra material and contaminating the paint when the bra heats up from the sun and the water flashes off. This is especially a concern in hot areas of the country like the South where it rains followed by hot sun. The paint on Porsches is water based, and the clear coat can become opaque from water being trapped in the bra.
I have sprayed the interior of my bra with with Porsche convertible top water repellant (i.e. Scotchguard) so that the bra does not absorb as much water. In the few instances that I have gotten caught in the rain, I stop at the first chance and remove the bra. Luckily here in California the rainy season is very predicable, so I just don't drive the car in the wet if I don't have to.
