Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

To stop further leaks the Porsche service manager told me they now use an aircraft- grade adhesive for re-doing the cam-covers.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, this is under the driver side of my '99 C2. What is going on here and how bad is this? All my fluid levels are ok, car is running fine. Not sure what else to say, so here is the photo: Thanks! Sean

POST 2Original post

Just trying to orientate myself to your engine. What angle is that shot taken from? Cam-cover leaks are common if thats the area I think it is.

POST 3Original post

Looks like bank 1-3 cam cover. The shot is probably taken from the drivers side, towards the front of the car. A quick look in the engine compartment to make sure nothing above is leaking would be worthwhile.

Eurotrashed - I noticed you're in Valencia - if you don't have an independent mechanic, you may want to connect with the guys as TRE Motorsports in North Hollywood - www.tremotorsports.com

POST 5Original post

cam cover it looks like. my dealer took the engine out to fix it.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, it is taken looking towards the front, driver's side. Cam cover sounds correct. I will try to get another look at it today when I get back. It looks like it has been weeping there for a while, but it doesn't hit the floor. I was just crawling around under there last night to take a look at everything, I have had the car for about a month. Thanks! Sean

POST 7Original post

I've had them fixed, both sides, and removing the engine wasn't required! To stop further leaks the Porsche service manager told me they now use an aircraft- grade adhesive for re-doing the cam-covers. Mine's still dry after nearly two years driving. The glue is red in colour and you should see a bead of it around the edge of each cover.

POST 8Original post

Sounds like a cam cover. It's the second most frequent leak in the 996 after the RMS. I think it may actually be just as common, but less serious so less well known.
