Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello folks.., Sometimes the 2nd gear is not engaging correctly....No grinding noise just not engaging correctly....ant way to fix it? Of course manual transmission Thanks Robert 2000 C4

POST 2Original post

There are quite a few discussions on this. If you search for 2nd gear pop-out there should be able to find them. If you are lucky you might be able to fix this by switching out to a slightly smaller detent. It is cheap enough to try even if it doesn't fix the problem and you can DIY with a little patience. http://www.gboxweb.com/detent.html I had one installed when my Indi was upgrading my IMS bearing. It solved my problem which was 2nd gear popping out when cold.

POST 3Original post

Maybe change fluid first. Does it happen more when it's cold?

POST 4Original post

Is it that rubbery feel where it just wont go into gear? Paul

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is happen only when it's cold... Robert

POST 6Original post

Shop manual says to change the tranny fluid every 90k for MK II (2002+). I assume your model has a similar service interval. I think 90k is a little long, and changed mine at 45k. It felt smoother afterwards. Before you start changing and adjusting things, I would change the fluid first.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
