Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Been chasing a graunching type noise over the last year. Only appears after car has been sittng a few days and then only the first half mile or so... I recently replaced upper strut mounts. Basically had the whole front apart except lower control arms to do it. The noise is more prominent now... of course...! So, the only items left that move are control arms and sway bar links. Looking at control arms, this shop has a kit but not for cars with Litronics...i suppose the hole to attach the height measurement is missing...? http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod21...-and-996---04/ Looked at Pelican, no mention of different lower arms for cars with Litronics. Anyone know if the deign911 kit will work anyway? Thanks in advance Mike

POST 3Original post

More than likely the tie rod ends. Though probably not worn at all, they bind as they age and mvove in "pops" which makes that noise. Easy to replace, and much cheaper than control arms, when I did mi e killed the noise completely. Paid about $200 for the set of 4 and $75 for the tools to remove them. Easy to do, I posted about it maybe a year ago.

As long as it has the hole closest to the inner bushing, it will work as that's where the Litronic sensor pivot mounts to. The one from your link doesn't appear to have the second hole and also states that it is not for Litronic equipped models.

POST 5Original post

I had a pretty horrible noise coming from the front of my car. I replaced the sway bar mounts. Sound gone. . . and it was SUPER cheap. New mount above the old ones.

Thanks - do you know if its just a hole or other differences, i.e. I can drill a hole...

Why not just get the right one to begin with?
