Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use cars' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace engine' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Demand to see the type I and type II print outs, I guarantee you that every used P-car as some Type I revs.

They offered to replace the engine under warranty (11,700 mile three year old C4S with X51) if and only if I would pay the labor bill (approx $2000).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My C4S DME data showed a number of Range 1 Ignitions.
What is a Range 1 Ignition and how do I convert the numbers into real time?
Also what is a Range 2 Ignition?
TIA
Not a Porsche tech but....
Range 1 and Range 2 ignitions are rev limit occurrences. The Range 1 is when the electronic rev limiter is hit during acceleration. This is actually not a over rev because when the engine hits the limit the computer retards the fuel delivery to protect the engine from damage. Range 2 is different and refers to mechanical over revs where the electronic rev limiter can not prevent an over rev situation (i.e. missed shifts) . The PST2 can read the history log of these (there is no "real time" calculations) and will show you how many of each type and how many hours of engine operation ago the most recent took place. There is a picture floating around of the screen of the PST2 (reading a Boxster I think).
Thank you Brian.
If this is true then I have been treated very badly by Porsche.
Let me explain: My car suffered what was termed a "catastrophic engine failure". This was the result of an intermediate shaft bearing failure and it's subsequent consequences. These failures are not uncommon and are well documented. What isn't well known is that now Porsche actively negotiates with the owner for a "contribution" to help pay the warranty claim. In my case they cited a Range 1 ignition event (DME download) as evidence of abuse. They offered to replace the engine under warranty (11,700 mile three year old C4S with X51) if and only if I would pay the labor bill (approx $2000). PNA said this was only because I am a repeat 911 buyer and they consider the offer a gesture of their goodwill.
Hmmmmm.
How can hitting the rev limiter be considered abusive operation of the car?
Something doesn't feel right about this and I am going to investigate the matter some more.
Ted
BTW, my dealer tells me that in the near future PNA will be requiring DME data downloads to be forwarded to them for all mechanical warranty claims.
I'm a newbie here, so I offer this as a cautionary tale.
That's interesting, but, sadly, not surprising. Want to get them? Go shopping at various different Porsche dealers for CPO used cars. Demand to see the type I and type II print outs, I guarantee you that every used P-car as some Type I revs. In fact the salesman will tell you it is no big deal. Now, put together the inspection and marketing materials with the type I information they have given you, and then go back to PCNA. Reaction should be interesting. If the reasoning they articulated to you were correct, then Porsche should not allow any cars with Type I revs to be qualified for the CPO program. If they did that, they wouldn't have any cars to sell
Good luck.
