Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

The timing tool had the slotted piece installed backwards when it shipped, but after that it worked fine.

Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

The alignment tool is bent and therefore used my own method to align the rods and pistons.

The cam lock tools are fine, but I used a standard bolt instead of the ones with the hand screws, since they interfere when removing the cam covers.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im going to be changing out the crancases on about a week or two and was wondering if anyone had the cam alignment and wrist pin circlip tool to put the engine back together. I would pay shipping, rental fee or whatever you would need. PM me if you have these and would do this. Thought I would check before I go buy them being I will likely be going through a 3.4 ever again hopefully. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Nitro rocket I have a full set for the 3.4. PM me with your email or phone so we can talk. I am north of Chicago so not to far away.

POST 5Original post

Just a warning if you haven't use this kit yet. My timing tool was assembled from the factory totally backwards. There were some other shortcomings as well. I'll post a link to my review of this kit later. Short story is some of the tools "worked" but they were a pain.

POST 6Original post

Here's the review of the same kit Doug has (in addition to this review I forgot to mention the the timing tool "sword" (upper piece without slotted end) was backwards AS WELL AS the lower piece's slotted end was reversed, so double backwards if that makes sense). From https://rennlist.com/forums/9242386-post91.html: "...This time, I invested in some tools. I have to say this is a pretty low quality tool kit. If I were building more engines I would want better tools. The cam hold down tools do not match the cam towers and could damage the camshafts, therefore I used the tools I made on my own. The alignment tool is bent and therefore used my own method to align the rods and pistons. The wrist pin clip insertion tool is not long enough, and I had to improvise a hook on a long threaded rod to extract it after clip insertion (this actually worked pretty well). The timing tool had the slotted piece installed backwards when it shipped, but after that it worked fine. The cam lock tools are fine, but I used a standard bolt instead of the ones with the hand screws, since they interfere when removing the cam covers. Here is the tool kit I bought followed by the wrist pin clip insertion tool extraction tool (which I think is somewhat innovative because it takes the stress out of aligning the hook/tang to the piston and once you are done just yank out the clip tool)."
