Our company made access control systems (you know, smart cards to get into security doors) and I ran sales.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know that I'm not the only car fanatic here. I would love to see what everybody else has hiding in their garages. I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
Lets see the family cars, the grocery getters, the restoration projects, and the money pits (anything British qualifies).
1985 Bitter SC, only 500 made that year.
21,000 original miles.. she's a garage queen.
Otherwise, the daily driver is a 99 Navigator, the wife drives an 03 E320, and I have a Cushman to get the mail/take out the trash.
pics pending once completed but right now cars in my name are:
- the 996
- 1990 RX-7 widebody race car
- protege 5 (grocery getter to be sold this summer and replaced with another winter beater)
- RX-7....beater/parts car to support the race car (might be built and rented out for rides to others)
Tim, I don't know how you are going to part with the blue one...it looks nice with the wife's Benz.
Sebring, 2 British cars...you are a brave man! They all look great.
Richie, that Bitter is great. I have never seen one before.
Steven, that is a great collection of red cars. The Fiat looks like a ton of fun.
Kolshack, the black Lexus with the chrome wheels looks great.
Thanks guys....please keep them coming!
Heck living here in Germany I am very luck to have a one car Garage so the Porsche is in the Garage and the other two vehicles get to sit on the street (Volvo S60 2.4T and my old Chevy Blazer). Good news is crime is low and I have yet to find anyone who has had their car broken into.
tornik550, that is a beautiful 914.
johnny, the lexus looks like a great family car.
Grant, those are some great pictures. Some of them look an awful lot like my home away from home...Redstone Arsenal. The side graphics look great on the 996...they are the first I have ever seen.

Audi, great pictures...which is faster the 996 or M3?
Nick, sounds like a great collection. I'd love to see all those bikes. You must have a very understanding wife or she has one heck of a shoe collection.
Grant, absolutely love that Fiat. I'd own one right now if my head didn't shoot over the windshield.
Also, what's the deal with all the Range Rovers?
As for me, here's a front shot of the uber wagon, my 1995 525iT, which I thought was a good buy at the time, until the damn sunroof ground to a halt and now wants $2500 to fix.
Thanks for the compliment, I really wanted a touch of old 911, and that is the best I could come up with. You're right, not too many people have done this, I've never seen any others in real life.
Those old Fiats are just great. I put sway bars on it, Koni suspension, and 1 inch lowering springs. It really is a riot, even though it is incredibly slow. But when you get to the twisties, it doesn't even matter. I'm 6'1". I have to look ridiculous driving it.
Take a closer look Rick. Those are 45s on back! Other features. A top speed of 25 with 8 forward gears. That's a seriously close ratio tranny! The tires might not look like much but she'll pop a wheelie in three grears. And there's no need for sway bars. If she starts to understeer you just tap the turning brakes. I think you might be a little Jealous that you're stuck driving a Porsche. Nothing runs like a Deere!
Rob, great cars. Obviously, I'm not the only one with a painful addiction to things british...If you don't park the Rover inside occasionally, it will get mad and pee on your driveway. I have the stains to prove it. My wife and I love log homes, I bet yours is gorgeous.
Nutbeam, there is something about the Rovers that is endearing, I'm just not sure what. Ours is the third that we have owned.
Shark, The Camaro and the Turbo are both great. The little person on top of the Turbo is adorable.
Arnee, what a great collection of german engineering. You have every vehicular need covered.
JimB, I'm speechless. WOW! Would you like to adopt me?
Thanks for sharing your incredible collection. What a great garage. I want to come over and work on your cup car...your garage looks like a fun place to spend time in (not nearly as much fun as the track though).
Mark, can you guess which spot in the garage has an oil leak????
Guess... I'll treat you lunch when we visit Folsom/Tahoe this year if you guess which spot in the garage has an oil leak.
Funny you ask................a few minutes ago I was walking up my driveway after a walk to the mailbox. I was admiring the new offerings in my wifes Victoria Secret catalogue=Nice mods no doubt! My yellow lab goes apesmit and chases a chipmunk into the garage=oh sheet. I run in and grab a hockey stick and get ready for a "wrist shot" as I push the button on the other big door. I saw it run down one side and figure it is cornered. After 10 minutes of face offs and even a few passes with the shop Vac no joy. I look over and see I left door from garage to house open and cannot believe my wife gave my cat away a few weeks ago. I still have not found the little rodent yet but I can tell you the dog is in the house and he will not get dinner anytime soon! Any suggestions besides giving up looking at almost necked young girls?
Steve
Steve
Arnee, that's a tough one. If you had a british car, it would be a no brainer. The BMW is too new. My Porsche leaks, so I would lean toward that, except your Benz is a 99....My money is on the Benz. If you are in the area, please call [phone removed]). I would enjoy meeting a fellow P-car owner.
Brad, your Firehawk is beautiful. I learned how to drive in a 1969 Trans Am, I have always had a soft spot for Pontiacs. I miss my Saleen, but I retained visitation rights.
Steve, I'm not sure how the Victoria's Secret catalog, a wrist shot, and no joy from your shop vac tie in together
. I never get to see our catalog, my 14 year old son always beats me to it. Try the movies "Caddy Shack" or "RV"...they both offered solutions for getting rid of rodents. If all else fails, don't feed the dog for a couple days and he'll solve the problem for you.
Great thread! Have you guys seen the similar thread on the CGT forum? One guy there from Ohio I believe it is has a REDICULOUS stable of exotics. Check it out.
Anyway, seems I too am part of the British Invasion. This is how I gave the wife her Rover for her Birthday last year. She was very suprised.
some current cars

1957 Austin Healey 100-6 under restoration
And of course my Arena red 996 with my friends boxster I work on (supercharged)
I love all types of cars so I am enjoying this thread
JIM
Jim, you have a fantastic collection. Thanks for sharing it. That bug is something else...I can't wait to show it to my wife. A bug was her first car. The hot-rod 356s are really starting to grow on me. Your's is incredible.
Thanks guys for all the pictures. I am really enjoying getting to see the other cars in your garages. Please keep them coming!
Looks like I have a serious habit of buying black/black cars.
The 996 is a 99 C2 just for fun.. Just picked up the 540i to transport more than 2 people (quickly I might add). It's a 6spd M-Tech. The IS300 was a company ride, but fun none the less.
bernocco, your avitar is great. Chuck Jones is a friend and he has a 930S cab. It is a seriously fun car. If the NASCAR is yours, you are a lucky dog. I have been on the track with them a few times (Thunderhill and Infineon)...they are monsters!
Jim, your black cars look fantastic...what is your secret? I struggle with the wife's SL.
Thanks guys.
Great idea for a thread topic. Really enjoy seeing all the toys you guys/girls have in your garages. Compared to most of you, my garage is certainly nothing to brag about but I enjoy my toys a lot and that's the main purpose right?
Dirtbike - Yamaha TTR225 '02
Roadbike - Yamaha Virago 535
BMW Z3 '00 - for fun
Cherokee '00 - to haul the dirtbike and go off-road
The wife-to-be has an Acura Integra that also inhabits the driveway. I've tried to convince her to get something more fun but she won't listen to me. She loves her Acura and that's the end of that discussion. Still working on a little BMW for her. I think she would love a new 335...don't you?? hehehe
My Kubelwagon (VW Thing) has served as my "Porsche substitute" for 20 years until I picked up my silver C4. I still love it.
I really enjoy switching between the C4 and the Kubel - running errands around town - the contrast of both cars couldn't be better for me. After driving the C4, it's nice to mellow out and enjoy the open top on the Kubel, and everything seems like it's in slow-mo. Then back to the C4, well, you guys can imagine!
It's a reminder to me to be thankful for such a great life!
Does it count if I keep parts of it in my garage (during the winter
):
I also have a '03 Yukon Denali XL (daily driver for me) and a '04 Volvo XC90
T6 AWD 4dr SUV (hers) but they are always way too dirty to bother taking pictures of them.

05 Lotus Elise

Me at VIR racing for WERA
There is also an 81 Delorean with 30,000 original miles. I couldn't get a good picture, its blocked into the garage by the racing rig.
Is that really your Land Rover?? If so, do you have more off road pics of it? I'd love to see them. I'm really thinking about an LR3 in a year or two, and would love to see more of what these beauties are capable of.
To keep on topic, I love seeing that we all have other toys that aren't Porsche's. Looking great guys.
Ok All this Land Rover stuff forced my hand. Lexus Land Cruiser / race car hauler / wifes DD....to go with my earlier post. Don't make me include my kids car.
Oh Tim, it's not red either
I do - I do. That is too funny - I am still busting up.
If I showed you guys a pic of the 85 Jeep Cherokee I had (after I sold my 89 Porsche Turbo to buy my first house), you guys would spit on the floor. It was the ugliest, slowest, crappiest, vinyl-ist (if that is a word), thing with red interior ever. My buddies used to offer to let me borrow their cars for the weekend. It was THAT bad.
Like one other poster said, it makes us appreciate what we have now . . .
I do not want to hijack this thread, but maybe a new thread about the ugliest cars we ever owned would be just as much fun.
Nobody wants to see my old Land Crusier but you might like this... 1970 280se Cab. It is one of 164 low grill 2.8's built and was my wife's 40th birthday present last year.
Yes, I'm an addict!
Check out my cross country road rally adventure and pics at 993 Turbo "My 993tt in Rally Mode"
BTW - #61 is for sale if anyone is interested.
Matt, you have some great toys, thanks for sharing them.
Plantraco, How often do you have ladies commenting about how much they like your Thing?
Thanks guys.
Jim, thanks for the tip.
cdodkin, those were some great pictures. Both the Rover pictures are incredible.
Lerxst, you are not the only one. The attached pictures were my path to Porsche Ownership. I paid $20,000 for it and put it on my Sears Visa card (my wife is really understanding).
porsche-t, your garage looks great to me.
Jeff, that is a beautiful Formula, they are incredible boats.
Navy, you have way too many toys...that just isn't right. Congrats!
Steve, I can't believe it isn't red.
Joe and Matt, come on...give up the ugly ones too.
swmrdrn, your cabriolet is spectacular. I love all the old Mercedes cabs and SLs.
Thanks guys for all the great pictures!
Brad, your Firehawk looks just mean. I bet you don't worry about getting your offroad toy dirty. It looks like fun.
SpeedDemon, I love your fox body Stang. I'm attaching the only picture I have handy of my 420hp open track 89 Saleen....Gone to one of my best friends. Yours looks great!
Fenton, what a great addiction. You have a fantastic collection of toys.
s4del, that is a sweet M3.
SpeedDemon, there is no such thing as too much when it comes to toy cars.
Thanks again guys for all the great pictures.
This is a GREAT thread!!
Rob, nice to see your beautiful rides over here... are you slumin?
Mark, thanks for the kudos on the avitar - it was shot in Robs garage! The cup car (s) are ours and BIG fun. Talk about horse power.... but NO brakes and NO corner grip on flat tracks. Lots of FUN!!
CDODKIN, WOW! What a cool shot of the English automobile being drowned. Don't suppose you need a JEEP to haul your limey *** back out do you?? He HE HE - just kidding - VERY Cool!
Well I do have maybe one or two more, here is my rock ride (the bus).... and for the fellow with the E34 - yea' I have a pretty cool one also it is my daily driver and just love it! I also really am addicted.
eric
Hey, this thread may be taking on a new angle.
I was just thinking. Based on someones comment here already, maybe we should talk briefly about what we do to earn the dust to be blessed with such great hardware. For me it would be kind of a plug - you know like many others have taken here.....
I pretty much retired from the electronic security manufacturing side of the industry. Our company made access control systems (you know, smart cards to get into security doors) and I ran sales. NOW, I sell high end race car trailers, haulers and stackers, now this is the most fun I have had my whole professional life. Need a race car trailer??
eric
S4Dell, very very nice E30 M3 there, I love that car.
And swmrdrn, that 280se is amazing. I would so drive that with the top down, cuban jazz on the radio, and my panama hat on my head.
It is a fun car and Heidi (my wife) drives it almost daily. In some ways it is amazing how "modern" the car is but the radio is not one of them. If you think our stock 996 radios sound bad you should hear the original equipment mono Becker Europa unit that is in the 280se... I'm afraid that your jazz would seem a bit flat.
Eric,
I'd love a toterhome/stacker setup but then I'd have to justify it by driving to the "far away" races rather than going with a race team. There is nothing better than having a motorhome at the track.
Jim
This the stablemate to my C2. It has a vertech blower running 12psi and does well over 400hp. I really do love the car but it feels like a metal red wagon compared to the C2.
and the other ride they call "Suspect"
Dang, you guys have action shots of your cars? Here are my action shots:

Thanks again guys for all the great pictures. Attached is the other vehicle that occupies my driveway and my K-9 who rides in it with me. The injured K-9 is my partner's K-9. He and two of my buddies got shot up in an ambush on Tuesday. I was fortunate to be able to get his K-9 and have him treated at a local vet clinic for a gunshot wound to the chest and lacerations (from barbed wire) to his flank and face.
I appreciate the comaraderie on this site. I know that I am not the only one here that is in law enforcement. I don't usually share my professional life with anybody, except for a few close friends (that are also in law enforcement). You guys are great, we all share the common bond of being car fanatics....it trancends all our differences.
Whenever one of my dogs is sick or injured, I always make them feel better by taking them on a ride in my 996. Porsches have healing powers. Unfortunately, my dogs do not have honorable jobs like yours. Mine usually get sick simply from eating too much or doing something else stupid.
Mfletch, Thanks for sharing the pooches and the service. We all owe you and your team a BIG thank you! for everything you do to keep us safe every day. I for one am glad that you are here and happy to share a great hobby/sport/appreciation like Porsche with you and others in uniform.
I once lived in South Lake and got down to Placerville often. Keep up the good work and thanks again.
Here is a shot of our "kids". My wife and I only have these two red pigs that do not need a college education. Saves money$$
bernocco, thanks for the kind words. Your kids are my wife's favorite breed. I worked for LA County from 85 to 91. I lived on the beach the entire time, but I almost bought a house in your area, it's a beautiful part of LA. If you are ever in the area, lunch or drinks are on me.
My in-laws live near Willow Springs...I would love to run my 996 there.
Mark, you are so welcome. Look you earn the praise every day you put yourself out there - kudos!!
My family has been in the Conejo Valley since the E A R L Y 60's and we love it out here. (kind of dates me) I married a valley girl and taught her what the sticks was all about. Took her awhile to get used to the lack of smell in the air although a well placed exhaust pipe got her through many a clear blue day and it seemed a little quiet for her until she discovered that I ususally had some kind of hot rod with loud exhaust hangin around the house to keep her hearing from improving. Then I actually got her interested in racing and she crew chief'd me to two SCCA division titles in small bore GT, not to mention all the vintage stuff. Now she works on the P cars - WOW what a life.
If I am in the area I will look you up and you please do the same. We both look forward to meeting you some day and we will take you up on that first round of Iced Tea or Lemonade.
We are diggin your SL............ too cool.
Here is the Mrs. doing what she does best.......
bernocco, I think it's great that your wife shares your hobby with you. My wife helped me rebuild mine. The SL was my way of thanking her. We both have "keepers". The picture of your wife with high heels and a red short skirt, while working on the Porsche is priceless. I'm sure we'll get to meet someday....I'll look forward to it.
MrC4, those are great pictures of your cars and bike. You obviously know how to use a camera.
Arnee, where else would you park your motor cycle?
Duane, you have a fantastic collection of cars. How close is the AMG to the TT in acceleration? I encountered one in my Saleen that had been clocked in the high 11s at the drag strip on slicks.
OK, Here we go!
The Exploder is the DD - Over 90k miles, still looks/runs great
The Durango is the wife's/family vehicle, the wagon and trike are my daughters transportation. The trike needs a little work, but note the cool horn mod...
Don - the last two pics are great!
You need to put 8" wheels on the red wagon and lower it a bit.
The trike needs some Aluminum Pedals to match the front fender and the "steering wheel," and the steering wheel column needs a Silver Porsche Crest.
I have seen some Porsche Crest "stickers" on the web. Here, try this link. Scroll all the way yo the bottom of the page.
http://www.eagleday.com/itemswithcrest.html
useless and usefull parked together...these are my wifes words!!
She doesn't understand a mode of transportation without a LOT of shopping purchase space!! She kind of needs a trailer behind the X5 to bring it all home!
Don, she is adorable...life is so simple when they are that age. Mine are 17, 14, and 12. It becomes a little more challenging when they get older, but worth every moment.
Tailwag, what a great combination of cars. Not only do the cars look fantastic, your garage looks great also. How well does the 996 keerp up with the Z06 and the WRX? I know the Z06 is a rocket. How do you decide which one to drive?
Nicolaas, You have the perfect combination of family and sports cars. I like the all black theme you and Tailwag have going.
Skiracer, that's some serious horsepower you have there. They look great.
Keep 'em coming guys....thanks!
The C55 runs a mid 13 second quarter. Lots of low end grunt. Just power brake it to 3,000rpm and it hooks up just fine. Top end is limited to 155 which it will do if you have lots of room to let it run. C55 is a breeze to drive fast even in the twisties. Very communicative and forgiving. It eats rear tires as much as the 996TT. The 996TT is faster, but you have a lot more finess to hook it up just right. You also have to keep it on boost between shifts. The 99TT is a handful in the twisties compared to my 993. The suspension needs to be redone which is my next project.
Thanks Duane, those AMG cars are amazing. I knew they were fast in a straight line...I didn't know that they could corner. My wife's SL600 is a rocket, but you can definately feel the weight in the corners.
Steven, if that started life as a Maverick, I've never seen one quite like it...beautiful car.
Pat, it might be just me, but I can't view your picture.
chsu74, both your cars look great. I love the aero kit.
Dan, if that is a sickness, I hope there is no cure. You have an incredible collection. The blue on your 997 is stunning.
Zman, come on...give it up. I would love to see the Ducati. Dan gives us something to aspire to.
Thanks for all the great pictures guys!
Great collection of toys guys! Thought I'd add to your thread...

Kevin, you have an incredible collection of toys. I love the picture of the Cayenne towing the custom Porsche trailer (with turbo twist wheels) with the 996 on it. The motor home and boat aren't too bad either. I drool over RS replicas....yours looks incredible. I test drove several AMG Mercedes models prior to buying my wife's SL600. Your CLS 55 is one of the most beautiful 4 door cars ever built. I bet it will keep up with the 996 pretty well...is it faster? If you have kids, I bet they fight over the BMW. How does the RS compare to the 996? Thanks for sharing your great collection of toys with everybody.
Yoops, Your BMW looks like a rocket....I bet it's a lot of fun. What a great family car. Whenever only two of my kids are going anywhere with my wife and I.... I make them ride in the back of the 996 (17, 14, &12). They don't fit very well. I bet they would prefer your BMW. The bikes look like fun also.
Greg, those are two beautiful vintage sports cars. I have always liked the 2002s. I almost bought one when I was in college. I got into Alfa GTVs instead. I'm trying to convince one of my kids that the BMW would be a great first car. I would enjoy getting to restore one with any of my kids. I'm sure that like the 912, they are only going to go up in value.
Thanks guys for sharing all the great toys.
speedread, your project sounds very exciting. I seriously considered putting a TT engine in my 996 when I rebuilt it. One just sold on e-bay for $5,100. Lots of people said it couldn't be done or wasn't cost effective. I admire you for being willing to try such a modification....I'm guessing about 375 hp in a 3,000 lb car should be pretty incredible. I would love to see pictures of the project as it progresses. Good Luck. Sorry you have to drive a mini van.
Thank you Mark, your well on your way to a great collection as well. I bet that SL gets up pretty good. I do love my CLS, its my DD although that is only about 3K miles in the last year
The CLS will definitely take the 996 without a problem, I've actually heard stories of it taking 996 TT's as well. I don't have kids yet, but thats one reason for keeping BMW, its more sentimantal value
The RS is my race car, it hits the track once a month, it has a 2.5 high compression engine built for racing, its very light and fast, it will definitely take the 996 on the track. Thanks again for the kind comments!
Yoops, love that Alpina - the e28 body style is classic.
Greg D., nice 912 and 2002. I'd have the same if my garage wasn't filled with *****, play kitchens and unused golf clubs....
>Greg D., nice 912 and 2002. I'd have the same if my garage wasn't filled with *****, play kitchens and unused golf clubs....
You could probably afford those cars for the price of golf clubs and play kitchens too ;-) Personally, I think those 2 are the next models to appreciate, like early 911s... We'll see... Not that I'm speculating, but at least this time I hope I did not miss the boat !
Kevin, you are very welcome. I hope someday we get to meet at the track. I can't wait to take the 996 out for a track day.
Rick, you also have some very nice toys. I think the 928s are a serious bargain right now. You get an incredible car for very little money. It's cool that you kept your first car. I love GTOs. I learned how to drive in my brother's 69 Trans Am.
Thanks again guys.
Well...I change cars too damn often...
And believe it or not, I have the Subaru squeeze down to a science. Just in case it hails, I figure I would figure out a way to get it in...it has saved me twice already...I can have it in on the first try....reverse...crank wheel to lock position and turn 5 degrees....crank steering wheel again the opposite direction to lock....voila...it is actually a lot easier than it looks....
Thanks Mfletch
Z06 - fastest
STi - fast
911 - less fast
G35 - zzzzzzzzzzzz
The STi is my daily driver. Rain or snow or whatever...I even drive it to autox and track events...it sees the most miles out of all the cars.
The G35 is gf's ride...1/2...she drives it to work and we take "long" trips on it if needed....it is by far the most comfortable out of the bunch
The 911 I drive once in a while when it is nice...it is the one that probably puts a smile on my face the best out of all. It may not be the fastest, or handle the best or probably doesn't do anything better than any of the cars, but, it is just simply a cool car and I always wanted one since I was a kid...
The Z...well, she is a beast. Nothing in the garage can touch it performance wise....nothing even comes close...but she is a handsful....
Kevin...the Cayenne, 911 and Trailer look awesome together!!!
I am thinking REALLY hard about getting rid of the STi and moving to the SUV category...a Cayenne Turbo...and then doing the "Techart" move to make it match my 911...after watching the pics you posted, it makes me want it even more.
Beautiful house too!!!
Thank you very much for your kind comments. You will love the Cayenne if you get one. I have about 35k miles on my 04, its been a solid SUV, no major problems. Beware of the 22" Techarts, I've bent 6 out of 4
Well my wife did the last 2
Adrian, the Audi and the 996 make for a great combination.
Tooruf, two 911s...it doesn't get much better then that. That looks like a seriously large boat for a Cayenne to pull (due to wheel base, not power), I'm impressed.
Thought I'd add a few of my goodies to the post. First pic is of some family and friends in our Super Air Nautique wakeboard boat that we own with a neighbor . We are lucky to live in a pretty unique neighborhood in the Pheonix suburbs that has its own private ski/wakeboard lake. The second pic is me trying to get some air...its definately getting harder as I age and get fatter. The third picture is of the trusty tow vehicle. Finally, in a past life, I used to be a competitive mountain biker (state champ in my class and age group in both AZ and New Mexico)...so I had to post the bike (which unfortunately, has been collecting some serious dust and cobwebs as of late.
Scott, Your neighborhood looks like a fun place to live. You don't seem to be having any problems getting air on the wakeboard. Any higher and you would need a parasail. The boat and tow vehicle look like a great way to spend quality time with your family. I bet it won't be long before you are riding that mountain bike again with your little people. The Porsche paraphernalia on the wall looks nice behind the 996. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Take care.
SK8world - I luv that RX7....and it looks trick - how does she run? I built a 12A rotory on the older platform car 1982 and just had a blast with it....I always wanted the Turbo....yours looks fantastic.....and probably gives the porsche a real run for the money....
sk8world, your RX-7 is beautiful...the engine compartment is a work of art. You have obviously spent a ton of time and money on it. Your RX-7 looks like it should be on the cover of a magazine.
heelix, nice combination of vehicles. You have the first restoration project airplane that I have seen yet...it looks like quite a challenge.
Thanks for sharing the pictures guys.
Mark,
We do have some fun in our neighborhood. The whole family rally enjoys using the lake, and its nice that we don't have to travel or make it an all-day ordeal. We try to go every weekend. My wife has grown to love wakeboarding so much she attended a mini-camp with some female professional wakeboarders and got a personalized license plate on the Tahoe that reads "wakemom." She's great, and getting pretty good at it too (although being 6 months pregnant makes it difficult!).
RJM, you obviously have some great toys lurking in your garage....how about some pictures? You have way more then your share of cool P-cars, I didn't know that any 993RS models made it to the US. I'm sure you could make a very educated contribution to the 993 vs 996 debate. I test drove a Westminister Edition prior to buying our Rover...it's a beautiful car. I guess if it's good enough for the Queen, it's good enough for us. I must be having brain fade in my old age...is your 993RS the yellow one that was featured in Excellence?
Scott, it's always nice hearing from you. It sounds like you have a great wife. Congratulations on the upcoming new arrival.
Thanks Mark, I do have a great wife, and no one that meets her would dispute that! With respect to the new arrival, how did you know I ordered the plenum? Oh wait, gotcha, that new arrival. (The plenum is on its way, however...I can hardly wait to install it!). By the way, my dad traded in his 02 aerokit cab yesterday. He is vacationing in San Diego and called yesterday to say he was up at the Carlsbad dealer and was falling in love with a Guards Red targa c4S six speed with full leather, turbo wheels, and nav. He pulled the trigger and he is just happy as can be. When he comes down on Friday I'll post some pics. Talk to you later.
potxoli, WOW! congratulations...what a gorgeous car. I'm sure that I'm not the only one here who has drooled over our Italian rivals. How do you like it? How does it compare to your 996?
Scott, I can't wait to hear how you like the plenum. Hopefully you see a noticeable time difference on your G-tech. Your Dad sounds like a great guy. I wonder if he will miss the tip. I'll look forward to seeing the pictures.
Thanks! The comparison is tough to do. The 996 is faster and easier to drive for sure. It also seems so plush compared to the ferrari. The sound of the ferrari engine is intoxicating (my car has tubi), everything is SOO stiff, clutch gearbox etc, it is very strange to go from it straight into the 996. 996 is the better car, but the 348 gets my passion going more.
On the subject of 355s, they are great cars, but quite a bit more expensive. If you have the $$$ I'd go for a 355
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjtCzVzCGQA
ok, not my garage
....but that is my black Z06 there...one of the guys picked up a Diablo SV/GT...this was the welcome...I felt like bringing a "bottle of leather conditioner" or something like that....
Thanks, It is running good so far. I just put in a ported motor and up again to yet a bigger turbo. It should make upper 500's to low 600's on the dyno. Only time will tell! The Porsche is my tame-quite-cruiser for now! Been knocking around a SC for it. As far as comparision goes, close match on the road track but in a straight line no comparision.
Hi guys-
Haven't been able to post much lately, but we've been kind of busy w/the twins. I'm doing some work from home, and go in to the office twice a week, in order to get to drive the 996.
There haven't been any Rovers posted for a few pages, so I thought I'd oblige
potxoli, thanks for the information and the comparison. There is nothing that sounds like a Ferrari with a Tubi exhaust. I'm sure that you will make a lot of fellow Rennlisters happy by saying the 996 is a better car.
Michael, nice family car. My wifey wouldn't have gone for the smaller engine...she has the speed bug as bad as me.
Duane, If I recall correctly, he built that car and it was featured in Excellence Magazine.
pchak, congratulations on the twins. Nice Rovers. It's pretty funny that so many of us have them. They definately don't lack for personality.
Peachboy, you have got to give up some pictures of all those cool toys.
Wifey drives a 2007 FX35 and my 16 yr old daughter drives a 1982 Golf Cab (full euro Gti spec engine with too many mods to list) that I've owned since new.
You know Im an FX fan. Plus not a better car for a 16 year old girl. I think Ill pick up a cabriolet for my daughter when shes 16, and shes only 4 now!!
Michael,
yeah, the FX is a great vehicle. My wife says it's the best she's ever owned and all the techno gadgets (intelligent cruise, lane departure warning, sat/nav, bluetooth) work as promised. I was going to sell the cabrio 7-8 years ago because I didn't drive it anymore and it just took up space in the back of the garage, but after a few tire-kickers got on my nerves, I decided to preserve it until my eldest daughter could drive (man, time goes fast!). Am I ever glad I did! The car is pristine and the built engine only has 45K kms. I put about $2k into it a few months ago to get it fully roadworthy again and it's now like a new car.
love the v-dub fogs and interior. I have to say, I drove a friend's cabrio (also a girl) a few years ago and it was one of the most fun cars I've ever driven (being a stick helped) although I would never buy one for myself
That is hilarious - mine is 4 and is already trying to decide between the new Beetle cabrio with the wheels painted like daisys and the flower taillights and the one with that is red with black polka dots like a ladybug.
We have an FX too - just about time to turn it in from the 12 month lease. Man does that thing get crappy gas mileage, but all in all a very good car.
Well honestly, what better son-in-law could a father have for his daughter? I'm young, I've got my **** together, I love cars, I OWN and drive a Porsche...I'm also good to the mothers too
I'm just too good to be true so, send your daughters my way.
ha ha, thats funny joe, we just started talking about it. Im sure shell get something newer in seriousness. Female only trouble, shoot me!!!
Navy, go get em buddy, I was in the same boat until I nabbed my father in laws daughter, ya dig!
Tailwag, I really enjoyed that video, thanks for posting it. Your friends appear to be some serious car guys....the car shower looked like fun.
Pongobaz, the FX looks like a great family car. You made a good decision keeping the cab. It must make you happy to see your daughter enjoying it now.
Duane, you have two spectacular cars. My wife and I have been toying with the idea of painting the center of her two piece AMG wheels black (on her SL600). Your pictures give us a great comparison of what both look like, thanks.
Since the other Rover folks have come out of the closet, I guess I will as well. 99 HSE, daily driver, beater. Works out well since the trees at my office dump all kinds of junk on the poor cars.
M3 comes back next week after having the new powder coated valve cover and plenum installed as well as a new windshield, VSR center section and Borla Muffler.
Can't wait to get it back.
And the car that used to be in the garage that I sold to buy the C4S
Stage 3 2000 Audi S4. Great car as long as you don't want to do any turning.
Did you ever know that youre my hero, I can fly higher every day.......
Man, envy must be the biggest form of flattery........
Nice cars my friend........
Thanks Mark. It's great to see her enjoying that cab and also a little depressing to know that I have a daughter who is old enough to drive! The FX35 is a terrific crossover; we just drove 6 hours to the Laurentians (north of Montreal) in it and got very good mileage of 11L/100 kms (don't know what that translates in MPG).
I got to say that you folks have some amazing and interesting machinery in your garages!
450knotoffice, you and your wife have a beautiful collection. I like the variety of colors. Which one is your favorite and how do they compare to each other. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Mark. The twins are already set up w/their baby boxsters and porsche peddle cars-just need to grow into them. My rangie is from NM, and as my beater, has 146K mi on it. My wife's freelander is up for sale. It's too small for all the twins' stuff. Makes a dynamite tailgate vehicle (go browns!-we have season tix). Possible replacement is a 4.2 allroad, if the dealer stops jerkin' me around!
TMAC, your S4 looks fantastic. I really like the two tone interior. I'm sure that with the brake modifications, it stops as well as it accelerates.
Bill, I love the color of your 996.
Thanks Mark. Only one I've seen in Viola.
Since we're on Audi's now, allow me to introduce our new arrival (with our new arrivals
). We put my Rangie out to pasture, and got the 4.2 allroad. 300hp, can chip it to 340. (also included a pic of Nolan in his p-car shirt)
TMAC, I love your S4.
FYI, I called florida from the moment I saw the grass, then confirmed my observation when I saw the houses. I went to high school in Florida.
sexy S4 too
Some pics of my wife's 328xi - nice car. Also a pic of my '01 A4 which is being "donated" to my kid for grad school. I'll post pics of my '08 Northern Blue Audi S4 (replacing the A4) which should be in by early October!
Bill, that is one seriously cool stationwagon.
Phil, the BMW and Audi are both very classy sedans.
Steve, I love your Alfa. I bought and sold several GTVs 25 years ago when I was in college. I have always had a special place in my heart for Alfas. I went from MGBs to Alfas....I'm sure you can understand my appreciation for the Alfas. You can actually drive them more then you have to work on them. After seeing your previous post, I went right to ebay to see if I could find one for myself. My brother has a 68 GTV sitting in his garage alongside a 59 Maserati 3500GT. They have both been gathering dust for about 25 years...what a shame.
Mike, your Audi is beautiful. I bet it's a lot of fun.
Thanks for keeping this post going guys. I really enjoy seeing everybody's other cars.
Thanks! The A4 is a nice commuter - going to my kid for medical school. I'm awaiting my '08 S4 which was ordered a few weeks ago. Should be a bit more fun than the A4 tip. I do have a thing for German cars, no doubt!!
TMAC, your '01 S4 is great looking. I had one of those too in Santorin Blue/Silver leather that I sold to buy an '05 S4 - of course that I sold to buy the P-car! What goes around....
vrinner, your SVOs are nice. I sold my 420hp 89 Saleen open track car to one of my best friends. How does the 996 compare to the SVOs on the track?
Tim, Your wife's CLK looks great. Check out the "Alternative to a 911" post....that SL would look nice on your driveway next to your wife's CLK.
The gray SVO was my daily driver for about 20+ years. I got the Porsche to be my new daily driver because I wanted something much more comfortable to drive to work (new job, hour drive).
The SVO and 996 are totally different. The 996 seems heavy compared to the SVO but certainly has more power than my stock daily driver. My track SVO (the red one) has a very nimble feel and will be even more so in the coming months as it's in the process of being completly rebuilt with Maximum Motorsports full grip kit and shock tower to shock tower cage put in. The 2.3 motor is putting out about 300HP.
I have raced against various versions of 911's on the track and all but the very stock ones would be faster than me (could be the driver). I'm hoping that will change soon.
Good Luck selling Tim, right now the 996 cant be the only car with a back seat. We need to have at least one family wagon. The little one is only 4, so we have some time to go until another coupe....... Looks great for the price!!!!
Nice Mustangs and I have always loved the SVO's. MM is a great place for Mustang mod's too. GL with the project too. Check out my Mustang from the link in my signature when you get time, it's not a track car as such and with a little more hp than yours too
Hey Mark,
"Bad a$$ station wagon", indeed. Since I've been doing a lot of daddy time (I've been working from home a few days a week), I've been driving the allroad a lot. That car really hauls. It could use the S6 sway bar upgrade for tighter handling, but it's pretty good. And it's safe. On the audiworld board, some pulled out in front of a guy's wife while she was doing about 40 mph, and the car really absorbed the hit nicely. She walked away without a scratch. I feel good that mommy and the twins are well-protected, and can easily zoom away from kidnappers, al qaeda roadblocks, and the errant coffee-can muffled ricer ;-).
Unfortunately, this may be the summer for a REAL shake up. I've been thinking about selling the 996. Although I've figured out how to make the seats fit, I really don't see the twins riding in back until they're a little older. I'll need to also get a new winter beater by the end of the year. My thought was, to part with the 996, and lease a used Cayenne for 36 mo. I'll save an extra payment for the beater, have a lesser payment on the Cayenne, and still have a p-car (sort of) that I can take everywhere. Then, when I turn the lease in, I'll look for an '07 997, which would be the twins' birth year. Just a thought. The last three Porsches that I owned could have all been considered THE keeper, but maybe the next one could be.
cheers,
Bill, I can certainly understand your dilemma. I have three kids ages 12, 14, and 17. My wife enjoys fast cars, so we have frequently taken turns driving the sports cars and the family cars depending on who had the kids. We both work different hours and I have a company car.
The Porsche has been great because it will hold myself and three kids. I do feel a little bad making the 14 year old ride in back....he is 5'10". Fortunately, my kids inherited the fast car gene. They would rather be uncomfortable in the Porsche then comfortable in the Rover (even with a supercharger, it's still a dog compared to the other cars).
Your Audi sounds like the perfect family car...it's holds everybody in comfort and is still fun to drive. Good luck with your decision on the Porsche.
vrinner, I used a lot of Maximum Motorsports components on my open track Saleen....they were first rate. I still get to drive or ride in the Saleen whenever I want. I miss the power, but after 5 back surgeries, I don't miss the ride.
emty, both your cars look fantastic. You obviously take good care of them....they both look like new. Great combo of fun/family cars.
NAvyC4S, that will work. When my wife and I go for a Sunday afternoon drive, we occasionally have differing opinions regarding which car to take. She likes to take a nice leisurly drive in the SL with the top down. I prefer to take the 996 and blast every corner in an attempt to make her lose her breakfast (or so she thinks). Our biggest problem is that we still like each other, so we aren't ready to take seperate cars.
