Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

A Turbo is out of his budget and more than likely a C4S would be too.
Leading evidence: 'c4s would be too' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'c4s would be too' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My buddy is looking to buy a wide body 996. I was under the impression only Turbos and C4S's were available in wide bodies...is this true? A Turbo is out of his budget and more than likely a C4S would be too. Can you get a Carrera or Carrera 4 with a wide body option? He is looking for preferably a Targa or Convertible in Silver or Dark Blue. FL or IL would be ideal location. Anyone have one for sale? Thanks
The above responses to your questions are correct. Look at some recent For Sale posts on some C4S. You can spend from the mid 50's for a decent car to the high 60's for a recent model with low miles. Good Luck.
Its not a matter of not being able to afford it as much as its a matter of he wants to spend around $50K or less. What little I know about the 996's I pretty much knew that was going to rule out the C4S and certainly the Turbos....thus the reason I stated it was out of his budget.
I told him to avoid the 99's because of the myriad of issues the first year had and the interior not being as nice as the 00'+. This I learned back when I was considering getting a 996. Luckily he wants a silver which seem to be plentiful or a dark blue. Is the dark blue color called Blue Lapis or is there a darker blue?
Thanks for all the info so far
Just look hard and do a national search on
www.porsche.com
for a C4S...I found mine that way. A CPO'd '02 C4S for 42.5K.
While my deal is pretty amazing....there are plenty of deals where you can grab a C4S for under 45K....you HAVE TO REALLY WAIT AND LOOK DARN HARD... but they are out there.
Best of Luck,
J
Midnight Blue Metallic is darker than Lapis Blue Metallic. When I was looking for a 966 2 years ago, I was initially looking for a Midnight Blue car. When I saw the Lapis Blue in person I really fell in love with it. I get a lot of compliments on the color.
BTW - my car is for sale. Here is a link to my post in the classified section.

Long Duck Dong..(Love the name), there are also others who convert the 996 NB into a WB conversion. Although few, I wouldn't rule out this option if he can come across one.
Here is a great example of a nice NB to WB conversion with plenty of aftermarket options. I am sure this was built and maintained to the A++ standards.

You can try
http://www.gmgracing.com
for a widebody kit for the 996. Call Fabryce to inquire about the pricing. They have done some . . . okay, okay, alot . . . of work on my car and I would highly recommend them.
In the same San Fran Craigslist, type in Porsche and there is an 02 C4S with 72K mi. which is high but he is only asking 39K and is the original owner which is huge because he should have all the records on the car.
Good luck
Andy
