Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

They looked at it, said they installed a "ring" incorrectly, and they fixed it.

Can you solve this a/c mystery?

Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

IMHO there is a leak in the system and the repair shop is not sure where.

Suggestion

They probably aren't getting the system sealed and the low pressure switch is preventing the compressor from running (as it should).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 2 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I first bought my car, I was told that the a/c had problems. Brought it in a couple of weeks ago, they checked it out (this is a reputable shop which many people on these boards suggested and they have always treated me fairly) and they said I needed a new compressor. Ok, fair enough, so I went ahead with the repair. The day I drove it home, it wasn't hot out, but it seemed to be blowing cold. I took the car out a couple days later when it was hot and it was deffinately not blowing cold, so I brought it back to the shop. They looked at it, said they installed a "ring" incorrectly, and they fixed it. I picked it up and on the way home it was very cold, so I thought it was working. Fast forward to yesterday, take it out again and again it is not cold. I bring it in the morning and they say that the compressor is not turning on, but everything else is working properly. What is going on here? Needless to say the shop is going to fix it for free, but what is the story here? Any help is appreciated.

POST 2Original post

**** happens. They tested the car it worked, but another problem pop up. As long as they are fixing it, it's really just a PITA, but it sounds like they'll work through it. Just stay cool. (oh sorry you can't)

POST 3Original post

They probably aren't getting the system sealed and the low pressure switch is preventing the compressor from running (as it should). When I work on an A/C system on one of my cars I always pull a good vacuum on the system and let it sit for 12 hours before charging. If it won't hold vacuum, it won't hold refrigerant.

POST 4Original post

IMHO there is a leak in the system and the repair shop is not sure where. Maybe they did put a 'ring' in incorrectly the first time, but they should have been able to see that the compressor isn't working after that repair to avoid you having to come back again.

POST 5Original post

anybody can make a mistake, as long as they are steping up to it your doing ok. its a inconvience but at least they are honest about it. Lots of shops would just sell you more parts
