Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
best is try to drive a 996 a bit, not just your 5 miles test drives, try to drive it over different road and for maybe 50 miles (that's several test drives at different dealers) and see how you like it.
Leading evidence: 'Test drives, try' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello.... Hope this is the right place for this post. As a Porsche & Rennlist newbie I can use some help.
Has anyone moved up from a Boxster S to a 996? I'm considering a '02 996 C2. I enjoy the Boxster S very much especially the handling but often wished it had more low end grunt and the seating seems close and restrictive on trips sometime.
Was the move up worth the extra costs?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Welcome to RENNLIST Xpresso. Hope your stay is enjoyable. Don't have answers for your question, but just wanted to welcome you. If you get a 996 don't forget pictures.
My father and I did it... but now I ultiamtely own the 996.
There "seems" to be a bit more room in the 996 front seats but it could all be perception. Add the fact that you gain the back area that you do not have in the boxster. You actually lose the back storage area under the rear decklid so I am not sure if the net gain is that great.
The back seat... well it is not... unless you are 3 years old or under 4 ft tall the back seat is a joke... it is just a place to put groceries and some junk... mine is occupied by a harness bar and now completely useless also (heh)
Handling... hard to say.. I drove them both but only have tracked the 996... I hear they are a toss up for speed and handling...
I love my 996 so I know I can't offer a complete answer in that category but the additional torque of the 996 is welcome and useable on the track for sure (assuming the Boxster S has less and and less is not what I want)
my $.02
box s is a great handling car. it's easier to drive and less "scary" for lack of a better word. it's very intuitive, you get in, you drive.
996 also handles great, but it's not intuitive. you get in, get intimidated, think it doesn't handle as well as boxster, then you learn and learn and learn and realize it's just as fun, but harder to drive well. but once you start to figure out throttle steering, very slow in very fast out etc etc, i think you will really enjoy the rear engined porsches.
torque, no comparison. HP: 996 has more, but i don't feel box S is that far behind, really. best is try to drive a 996 a bit, not just your 5 miles test drives, try to drive it over different road and for maybe 50 miles (that's several test drives at different dealers) and see how you like it.
don't think one car is intrinsically superior than the other, just different.
I had a 986 and then upgraded to the 986 S - Now I own a 03 Targa - I love the feel of the 996 just as much, if you loved the Boxster S, your really fall in love with the 996, the power and growl is great, plus back seats to hold your wallet :-) Trust me, it's great...
It's exactly what I did. Went from an '00 Boxster S to an '02 996 C4 Cab. In addition to knowing a lot more about the options available such as PSM ( a must have/the Boxster didn't have it) the extra HP is great.
i'm 6'4 and i don't fit in a boxster. in my 996 i keep the seat about 1/2" short of all the way back. a 996 DEFINITELY has more legroom. as for headroom, well, IF i fit in a boxster, then tried to close the top, it would take the top 2" of my head off. that's all i have to say!
I upgraded from a Boxster S to a C4S and I am very happy with my choice. The only thing I miss is the drop top but the power, room and classic 911 looks more than make up for a missing roof. I have no regrets, however to each his/her own, so drive a 996 and ask yourself what is it you want in a sports car. I don't think you will be disappointed with a c2 or C4s.
