I've had my 99 996 for a week now and have been trying to find maintenance guidance for simple stuff like oil changes, etc. Are there books or manuals available for the 996's outside of the $$$ factory manuals? By the way, this is my second Porsche - the first was a 76 911 and I can't believe the difference in handling, power, and braking - my wife can't get me out of the car!

If ypu don't have owner's manual, I would stop by @ your nearest dealer and talk to a service manager.

There is no aftermarket shop manual and the factory shop manual is not good for a DIYer. That is why last year our local Porsche group began filming projects on Boxsters and 996s and made a set of 3 DVDs on how to work on your car. A few months ago we filmed the 30k service on a Boxster and 996 side-by-side. Everything from pollen/air filter change, spark plug change, oil and filter change, to brake fluid and pad replacement. I have not looked at the video footage to determine if it is good enough to make it on the next set of DVDs. Jeff
